10 Year Anniversary
« on: May 03, 2015, 08:28:36 pm »
Ten years ago this month I had the first prototype of the Spin-On Oil Filter Adaptor Kit machined by a student in an adult machine shop class:

Which evolved to this:

And then to this:

Ooohhhh!!! Shiny!
Dan, I've had one for about three years, and it's hard for me to understand why Kawasaki didn't do something similarly. When I look at all the components in the cartridge filter set-up, it could not have been much cheaper, maybe more $$.
Anyhow, well done and thank you. I think of you at least once a year  :beerchug:

A toast to you Dan!  :beerchug:

I've got the SPOOFAK and I can honestly say that this little gem has made Connie oil changes not just a breeze, but far less messy.
This is one farkle that has paid for itself over and over again.
Thank you for a well-engineered product, Dan!

Congrats Mr. Dan. :beerchug: I am proud to have one of those prototypes on my 2002 Silverbullet as I was one of the guinea pigs who volunteered to be one of Dan's test pilots in the beginning. It has been on there since day one and is one of the best mods ever invented.

Thanks Jim (and to all of the other "test pilots" that were crucial to the development program)!

While not chosen as one of the Beta testers, I got one of the earliest "production" models and still have it and a couple of others. THree Connies, three SPOOFAKs.  A "must have" item that transcends "farkle" status IMHO.  An excellent product brother Dan, excellent!   :great:

Off topic question, but what filter to use with this once installed? Not make (don't want to start a debate), just a model number I can cross-reference.

You should get a filter reference list with the adaptor kit. If not, Murph can guide you to the website where it exists.

Dan, are you still making these?
I thought I'd seen where they were going to run out and after the last batch was gone, that'd be it.
If you are still making them, great, because I know they will be missed when they're gone.

Gary Murphy (Murph's Kits) is the sole distributor of the SPOOFAK. He basically determines the demand and stocks accordingly. A few years ago Gary and I discussed the "sunsetting" of the product since it appeared that market saturation might be right around the corner. In order to be viable, orders were placed with the machinist for lots of 50 units or so at a time and I didn't want Murph to get caught with a large stock of unsold inventory. He tended to agree and as a result I posted a message describing the situation.

That produced a flurry of interest and sufficient demand continued to the point that orders could safely be placed with the machinist. I don't know what the situation is at the moment, this is basically up to Gary.

The best thing to do is contact him and see where he is on this.

Dan, that's what I figured had taken place. The "notice" probably pushed a lot of people off the fence about ordering one. :beerchug:
I appreciate your concern for Gary not getting stuck with unsaleable inventory;   we all need to help him stay in business.

Congrats again,

Jorge

I was one of those who succumbed to the dooms day prediction of unavailability, and installed the SPOOFAK.  I will say that I wished I had done it much sooner.  This is definitely one the best improvements from an ease of maintenance standpoint.  What a outstanding product!!!   Big thanks to Dan and Murph!!!!
