Title: Beemer Buddies (Original Buddies) (also in the C14 section)
Post by: Cap'n Bob on February 26, 2012, 04:49:54 pm
The original thread in the C14 accessories section:

http://forum.cog-online.org/index.php/topic,31907.0.html (http://forum.cog-online.org/index.php/topic,31907.0.html)

I searched for Beemer Buddies before posting. Didn't find anything, so advance apologies if this has been covered previously.

A couple of weeks ago several of us went for a ride and one of the group had installed Beemer Buddies on his mccycle. SJ and I were both impressed with them, and have since both ordered. Mine came in today and I quickly installed on my 2010 - it took all of about 5 minutes.

One of the issues I've dealt with is my hands are a little large for the OEM grips, and these seem to provide a great solution. They are a neoprene pad that simply (and quickly) adhere to the stock grip, wrap, and then use a hook and loop tab to further secure. Being neoprene, they should last a good long time, are water repellent, and will not interfere with the grip warmers - other than maybe taking an extra minute or two to pass through the heat. Nor do they interfere with my throttle rockers, so another plus.

I haven't ridden with them yet, but just sitting on the bike and holding the grips, I believe it will make a big improvement in my riding comfort. Also,  those that are irritated by the "buzz" in the grips (not me BTW) may find this to be a quick mod for improvement.

Here is the link - www.originalgripbuddies.com (http://www.originalgripbuddies.com) or call 518-461-3003 or email info@originalgripbuddies.com.

FYI - I am not affiliated with this product in anyway, other than ordering them, and now installing on my bike.

Enjoy.

 ^-^ Hi Guys!

Cap'n Bob (moderator) was kind enough to start this thread at the request of several C-10 members of this forum, as he thought the membership might be advantaged by this posting. Since the original posting over on the C-14 side of this forum, many members of cog-online have purchased my grips and have liked them. We have avid followers on the K1600 forum, as well as many loyal customers on ADVrider. As you know, forum members can be a challenge to please, but we have had some success at responding to the needs of the majority of members. My customer service philosophy is easy and straightforward to explain.

        I have Three Simple Rules:

            1. Take care of the customer

            2. Take care of the customer
                             and,
            3. Take care of the customer

As Owner/Author of the Original Grip Buddies, I would like to welcome cog-onlne.org forum members to my new website. We just finished it, and there is a wealth of information about myself, my neoprene comfort grips, and my company.

The link to visit me is http://originalgripbuddies.com/ (http://originalgripbuddies.com/)

I have many loyal customers from all over the world who have acquired my grips and really love them. Several weeks ago I was on the motorcycle podcast "Sidestand Up", and that January 17, 2012 interview is archived and can be listened to anytime here: http://www.talkshoe.com/talkshoe/web/talkCastCustomAds.jsp?masterId=64458&cmd=tc (http://www.talkshoe.com/talkshoe/web/talkCastCustomAds.jsp?masterId=64458&cmd=tc)

Let me tell you guys a little something about Dave's customer service.  I put in the order on his website around 7:30pm.  I have a PayPal account which I set up two weeks ago and used once.  It worked without a hitch.  I thought the PayPal went through this time too, but I never got a reply and I sent Dave a note - then promptly fell asleep while watching the Oscars.  I discovered that I had missed his 10pm call when I awoke at midnight, but I'm not calling anyone at that hour.  So I sent him an apologetic email, figured I'd get a reply in the morning, and moved on to the rest of the stuff on my plate for the evening.

Nope - he calls me up at 12:45am.  I just LOVE finding someone with whom I can do business in the middle of the night when I'm normally awake!  We got the money part straightened out and had an excellent conversation about our lives and our kids, and we hung up when his wife arrived home late.  I was really happy at this point.  But then he calls again an hour later because something was wrong with the number I had given him.  We got that straightened out, chatted some more about the kids, and I got the receipt minutes later.

The whole thing was just an amazing experience from my perspective as the customer - and I haven't even gotten my Original Grip Buddies yet!  Dave, I'm going to recommend you to every single person who asks about my handgrips forever.  Thanks!

Ditto that Chip Doc. I sent a PM with a question and instead of an email response he called me right away  we spoke for a good hour about  lots of topics. Dave seems like a really super guy and customer service is like no other I have seen. All my questions were answered and so I placed my order with him last night.

Now listen you guys: No good deed shall go un-punished!  All joking aside, it's a real pleasure taking care of you guys, and it was great talking to you last night. Best part of this job is the great folks I meet. I'll be shipping your grips out in the morning. I spent the day taking orders, so they will all go out in the morning.

Here's to you guys  :beerchug:

After I'd had them on a few days, I decided I needed a bit more diameter on those grips, so I took the Buddies off and put on a bit of cork bar wrap before putting the Buddies back on again.  The neoprene easily stretched to accommodate it; now they feel absolutely perfect!

I love the way they react in the rain too - nice and tacky with no slipping at all.  It might even get cold again one night so I can check out the heated grips.

That "cork wrap" might insulate the grips from your heaters :P

It might, but I've been running around for years with three times as much cork tape on the grips and it hasn't been an issue up until now.  The real downside to cork is that it comes loose and needs to be redone every five or eight weeks.  I'm thinking that the Buddies will keep that from happening.

I installed  mine last Sunday and have been riding every day since. I really like then and they do fit my hands well. They also take out  most of our 'Connie vibration from the engine' issue.  I suggest you guys try these out, I am sure your going to like them.

Daytona_Mike-

Glad you got the OGB's "up and running" for yourself. And it's really cool for me to see people independently observing these truths on their new grips like: vibration reduction, and "filling your hands better so  you feel more in control of your bike". Personal discovery is so much more powerful than anything I could ever claim, or tell them, no matter how many times I have heard these things from customers (which is regularly, and all the time).

Thanks again for your input , Mike, and welcome to the growing family of happy and satisfied Original Grip Buddies customers.

Best,

No, we're way past the point where the heated grips are needed down here.  I've turned them on and you can feel the heat, but as you know, the grips feel completely different if it's not already cold out.  If things turn around I'll be able to take a trip to somewhere chilly before next winter, but if not I'll let you know around the end of November.

Meanwhile I'll continue to enjoy these wonderful grips unheated!

Daytona_Mike-

Glad you picked up on that!   8)

I worked long and hard to find the correct hook strip with glue that remains stable up to 186 degrees F. You are living proof that the extra money I spent on that component was worth it. I actually spent 4 times the $$ on that hook than my original hook during initial testing. fortunately, I had a great tester who helped me identify just that issue so we could build a superior product for guys just like you.  :beerchug:

Dave, kind of late making my report.
I ended up having to take them back off.  They fit fine and gave a nice large grip, however some time in the past my brake lever must have gotten bent.  I ended up with very little room between the grips and the lever on the right side.  Clutch side was fine.  Never noticed the bend before.  I even have the adjustable levers and still tight.  I could use them, it did not actually interfear with the lever, just too close for comfort for me.

Guess it's time for a report.

Got the beemer buddies and after about 2 - 2.5K miles, the neoprene cover was wearing in a few spots.  Received a pair of "heavy duty" as a free replacement.  Good service - no problems.  Jack certainly knows the materials better than I, but I imagine they are similar without the neoprene layer.  Just a nylon like material with some cushion.  Have about 4K on these with long rides, short rides, plenty of HOT rides.  No problems or wear through.  Rain does saturate, but the dry right out when it stops.

Prefer the originals for that rubbery feel, but these are still better than the stock grip.  Fill out the hand and some cushion.  Obviously, neither will make a night an day difference on vibes - but I imagine they smoothen things out to a degree.  I am ok with the vibes that I have.

Service and standing by product was there.  Filling out the hand and adding to comfort is there too (for me).   No complaints at all for an easy to install product that makes a difference.

I also have about 2K miles on my Grip Buddies and I am pleased with the new more natural (for me) grip.

I always felt the stock C10 grips were a bit thin...and the OGB made everything seem perfect.

I am assuming any extra vibration being absorbed is not noticed but appreciated.

Alekkas-

Actually, both versions of my grips are neoprene. Just a difference in the surface material- one is embossed rubber, and the other is nylon wetsuit-like material.

You may want to try our 3rd. generation grips coming in mid-September. They have the embossed rubber surface, but are more durable like the Extra Duty model, and will be called "Super Sharks". Watch these forums, as I will be announcing when they are ready to ship. Bottom line is that we are offering this new and improved model which combines all the best characteristics of our other grips in one model.

Best,

Dave R.

I picked them up yesterday and temporarily installed them.
They have a great feel and do seem to reduce vibration marginally.
They may be slightly to thick for my small hands but are very comfortable.
I will try them for about a month before deciding what to do with them.
Not a fault of the product, just small hands.
Thanks

Piston720-

Do give yourself a real chance to acclimate to them. Many have had the same  initial impression, only to find that after a little while they couldn't imagine riding without them. Go figure?

Dave,

Thanks for a GREAT product. How simple the installation was. Only took a few trys to get the postioning right. Did a 350mi ride last week and hands never felt better, even with cold weather gontlets on the grip was great.

Thanks again.
