It looks like my block off plate is bent
« on: October 20, 2013, 03:15:54 pm »
Hey folks,

I was poking around this morning and noticed my right side block off plate looks bent.  The corner is up just a bit.  Not flush with the cover.

Is this one of the few jobs for a hammer or am I experiencing a bigger issue?

If they are just flat sheet metal, a hammer would probably do the job. Although a quick squeeze in a vice would probably work better.

To be clear, this is not an issue where they need to have an air tight seal??  If this is a dumb question, well what can I do but ask it??  :))

if you did not physically plug the port under the cover using the "tap and install double setscrew method", I would say YES, it is an issue if the block off cover is not sealed.

No this is not a real serious issue, just some noise from the exhaust.
Most likely the reeds were not turn over on the reed holding plate, this
is what blocks the exhaust from reaching the block off plate. Simple
fix, just remove and unscrew the plus screw turn the plate over and
install the screw.

Hey thanks for the info - I've started calling myself a hypo-Connie-ac.  Every little thing with this bike, its like very simple, yet quite intricate.  Once you see the relationships, you're golden but until then it is a time bomb.

Sorry to go all existential on you guys.

I'm going to open up the plate next weekend and see what there is to see down there.

I have my eyes on one of Snarf's block off plate kits but rumor has it he is out of commission at the moment.
