Lockhart windshield
« on: November 05, 2012, 11:42:18 pm »
I just bought a Lockhart windshield in perfect condition that's been hanging up in this guys garage for years.

The distortion isn't nearly as bad on it as the Targa and I didn't like what looks like an obvious loss of downward/forward visibility (or the price) of the rifle system.

If anyone knows of a supplier for these and can let people know, it would be an excellent choice.

(I got mine for $50)  :whoo:

Gladly.. I put it on in his driveway, but will snap a pic tomorrow.

You'll see I added black edging to it too.

Thanks, Reaper1. I didn't put 2 and 2 together, you have the bike that I LOVE! I am seriously considering nose art for MyConnie. Thanks for the photo.

A couple of questions:

1) How do you like the wind flow vs. the stock windshield?

2) When you ride, do you look through, or over the shield?
Cheers,
Peter

I really don't know since I've never had a stocker... It's about an inch taller than the Targa I had, but it leans back a few more degrees...

I can comfortably sit upright and see about 1-1.5 inches over it or tuck in on the bike and am looking thru the top couple of inches, so I think it's perfect for me.  ;D

Yep! Now all I need is a turbo after I get my ZZR1200 alternator installed....   :)

By the way, I bought it from a guy that has a GPZ750 Turbo and a beautiful Pacific Coast that are going up for sale soon.

I thought of you, turbo-max, when I heard he was selling the GPZ750 Turbo. Want his number? He's in Ocala, FL.

Thank you.

After changing the windshield, bar ends, grips, right switch, air box, adding the marine grade 12v power plug, getting the zzr1200 alternator that's gonna be installed soon, redoing all the wiring with western union splices that are soldering and heat shrink, and the other upgrade work, she's going by The Blacksheep.  ;D

I'll be replacing the nose art with VMF-214 squadron insignia for the nose fairing as soon as I can get them made.

I hope you see you around out there again!  :motonoises:

Ride safe,
Ben

I appreciate it Mortech!  :beerchug:

It will get new paint one day, but it just isn't in the budget anytime soon.

I've looked high and low for a supplier for the Lockhart so share a link to, but it is definitely LONG out of production and no one seem to have them anymore.

I added edge trim to the windshield, the edges of the dash under it and replaced the trim around the mirrors where they mount to the bike because the old stuff wasn't staying on right. This roll of black edge trim can be found at Advance Auto.

It gives my eye a more defined sight picture that keeps my eyes from straining while riding by trying to focus on the world ahead over and thru the shield.

Not to mention, I think the trim looks pretty good too. In fact, I brought a roll of it to the last gathering down here and cut another rider a piece off for him after he took a minute to look thru my shield with it on there to see what I was talking about in person.  :)

I hope it warms up soon up there for you and ride safe!
