new radio and cruise installed
« on: February 25, 2014, 11:58:22 am »
I know that there's a lot of people that don't like an open sound system on a bike so sorry in advance for offending those. I have bad influences of all my friends that I ride with. I'm the only one out of the 20-30 guys that I ride with that have a metric bike. They almost all have custom baggers and I'm not just talking stock. Like show quality baggers. I'm definitely the odd ball in the group. Thought a few of you might be interested in a few pictures of the new receiver I installed along with the cruise that turned out to not be near as scary as I thought it would be

without saying I have sacrificed the left glove box for any future use. I made all the connections inside there so that if I ever had to work on it again I wouldn't have to remove everything again.

Not bad. There seems to be an excess of wires coming from the left speaker... What all is running from it?

In the one picture with most of the bike it it I had just wrapped the speaker wire around the grip to get it out of the way. Out of the radio unit there is an excess because they have 4 pre outs if you wanted to run an amp. There's also a USB and aux ins on the unit as well as blue tooth.

Had a Yamaha Tour Deluxe (RoyalStar) that I had ridden 55k in 8 years before I made the classic mistake of letting the wife sit on the back of the Ultra.  The bike is super comfy on those long days, but is also fat, slow, and heavy! (kind of like myself really).  I like all of the bells and whistles (radio, heated grips, cruise control, CB, tourpak, GPS, etc....)

This is my first HD and so far so good, but only 2,000 miles are mine so far.  I have always ridden with a bunch of HD guys, and therefore I ended up at lots of dealerships, so I guess it was bound to happen eventually...  I guess now I am 'drinking the cool-aid' but I do like the way it tastes.

Sure...  It was my primary commuter, the mile-eater.  But I have since moved closer to work so her fate is somewhat uncertain.   I would say on a solo ride, the C-10 is my first choice if staying on pavement.  Much better in less than ideal weather, and I don't feel that I need to wash her as often, and to be quite honest I am worried about adding up the miles on the Ultra.  The HD is mostly for two-up cruising and touring.  If boy-scout camp didn't get in the way (I have three sons going this year), I would definitely be heading to nationals!  I have had a C-10 since '09 and the Ultra since August of last year....

I thought it was the perfect layout until I noticed the speakers.  To me, speakers that are small enough to look good aren't loud enough; the ones that are loud enough are too big.  That radio is a sweet unit, though, and it's perfect for the location you chose.  I'm sick of earphones, so I gotta do something.  I've rented an HD Ultra several times and I really like the radio.

There's definitely a lack of thumping base but the speakers on the bars are 4" and really do sound good. As good as a ultra or road glide? Maybe just as good as long as the bags don't have speakers in the lid. I can hear it perfectly rolling 75-80.

I got the radio through amazon and the speakers through eBay. Speakers are the 4" cycle sounds that were used but they make top end quality stuff. Very pleased with their performance
