Pre-94 caliper/brake upgrade
« on: April 30, 2014, 02:53:54 pm »
I have been perusing though various threads about upgrading the front brakes. I have a new to me 93 C10 that will need new rotors and such soon, so now seems like the time to do an upgrade if I am going to do it. I have found a lot of info about post 94 bikes but not much about the earlier bikes. Are there better calipers that are a direct fit? It seems from what I have read that the calipers make the biggest difference. Are there still adapters available from anyone or specs to build some if there is not a direct fit option. I am not a "sport" rider so I am not looking for track performance but would like to have good solid performance for emergency stops and such. The current brakes seem to leave a bit to be desired, they feel a bit mushy (I did make sure they were bled well) and stop but not with gusto. This could of course be somewhat due to the fact that they are at the end of their usable life.

Thanks

I'm sure Brian (2fast) will be along soon, but until then check out his thread on his brake upgrade components for the early bikes.
