!!!HELP!!!! Trying to hook up Garmin to aux under glove box
« on: April 17, 2012, 08:18:43 pm »
???  I found the 2 wires inside the rubber boot but I dont know which one is for power and ground. Im assuming the one that has the cover on it is the positive (fuse line) and the other is the ground. My Garmin has fuse line and ground.

Your help would be appreciated

Yes, +12 switched is female, Ground is male. Front under left boot and rear behind ECU in boot are the same.

*sigh* I sometimes feel like a broken record.....

DO NOT just plug into any wires you find without testing them to be sure they are what you think they are first.  The wires under the dash probably are the acc leads, but why risk it,  2 seconds with a Multimeter will tell you for sure and then you won't risk frying your electrical system hooking to the wrong leads.

It literally takes seconds to probe with a meter and confirm, that also will tell you for sure which is positive (which can save you from frying an expensive GPS if the factory happened to get it backwards, never seen that on a moto yet, but I HAVE seen it in a car...)
You only need two tools in life – WD-40 and duct tape. If it doesn’t move and should, use the WD-40. If it shouldn’t move and does, use the duct tape.

There is no way to not find the accessory plugs. They stand out because everything else is sockets connected.

I don't know. It seems there's a lot of folks who can't seem find the accessory wires. We get an awful lot of folks who wind up asking where they are or if there are any. So there must be some way not to find them.   ;)

I found them, tested prior to hook up, and GPS works perfectly. It was a little difficult  hooking them up due to the lack of length but all is good.

Thanks for all of your input guys, much appreciated

On my 2012 model there is ONLY a positive lead.  I think older models have a + and - lead.  The + lead will have a plastic sheath on it to protect from shorting out.  If I remember correctly, it's black with a yellow stripe.

Search for Accessory lead, and you'll find a link to Fred's pictures.

...but I just did it: when you pull the glove box on the left, you can get to everything without moving the fairing.  There's a screw at the bottom, and 2 push rivits.

Hope that helps.

I have a 2012, and it has both positive and negative accessories leads with bullet connectors (female +, male -) under the front left boot as well as under the back boot behind the ECU under the tail.

Never saw a ground bullet connector on mine.  I figured they decided that there's bolts all over the place to use as ground and they would save the money on the connector!   :))

it's probably just stuck in that next of wires under the rubber boot...
