Advmonster H4 LED headlights blowing fuse help
« on: June 30, 2017, 09:14:36 pm »
I anxiously installed a set of Advmonster H4 led headlights and after starting the bike both headlight fuses high/low blew.  Relay fuse in same block did not.  Replaced with stock bulbs and lights are fine. Am I missing something?  I thought these were just plug and play, not plug and blow?  Any help is appreciated. Thanks

Id suggest calling them directly, how can we here tell what you may or may not have done?

Did you watch the instructional video for installation???

Just asking...

! No longer available

Also, which product did you buy?

These

Or these...?

Unplug one, and try them individually.... you may have a defective one.... by the sounds of it...

Thanks for the reply.  I bought the H4 R3 lights, got them from a link posted in another thread.   I think that the one I installed on the left is defective.  I pulled the fuses amd checked the connections, all looked good.  Gave it anothe shot and boom on the fuse, didnt bother checking hi beams.   Put the stockers back in and they are fine.  All I did was plug them in, not a difficult task.  There is no phone contact for them that I can find.  Sent an email, maybe I will hear from them Monday.  I boxed them up and will send them back.

Bummer...
So you didn't disconnect one, try it, and then try the other alone also, to see if it is actually one, or both...fuses are cheap.
I'm done.
Best of luck.

Tested LED light as you suggested.  Lights are fine.  I have some other issue with the headlight wiring.  Factory lights now blowing fuses, Ive done something to cause a problem.

Fuse blows when bar is turned full lock to left.

Here's the AdvMonster LED video I followed   https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=F8qp1bqgKLc

Pretty much similar to our bikes, but on my '08, I pulled the left and right black fairings to zip tie the black module out of the way when turning the bars. I also made sure to spread the mesh. I did test each LED individually and didn't find any issue.

Do you have any other accessories installed that maybe on that wiring circuit like external lights?

I watched that before buying and before installing.

There are no other circuits tied into the headlights. I appreciate your thoughts.  I taped around the H4 connection for added protection.  Made sure no wires were binding.  I re routed the accessory leads going to the dash.  And made sure there were no other wires obstructing the headlights.  I have no idea what I did but they are working properly at this time.

The frustrating problem is that I do not know what was done to correct the issue. I will put some miles on the bike with extra fuses and the black panels off just in case.

Thanks to all that attempted to help.  I will update if I find a problem.
