Akrapovic Slip-On Coming soon for C14
« on: October 17, 2014, 09:19:12 pm »
Was visiting one of the big online motorcycle gear retail sites yesterday and noticed that Akrapovic will soon be releasing a slip-on exhaust for the C-14, at a price of just under $1000.   I'm perfectly satisfied with my Leo Vince SBK at the present, but might have gone the Akrapovic route had they been available at the time I decided to upgrade.   Supposedly they will be available around the end of October 2014.   Thoughts or opinions on this?

Thoughts? I think they're way too expensive for what they are. You're paying for the name mostly. I've had several Akra pipes and systems over the years, and they're just way too expensive for what you get. Also, I found that the packing doesn't last all that well, and the last one I had (on a Kawi Z1000) had a stainless muffler with the carbon fiber tip, and after 30k miles, that CF tip got all brown and brittle.

Do they make a beautiful looking and sounding exhaust system? Yes, very much so. I love how they look.

But, there's no way in heck I'd spend $1000 on an Akra slip-on exhaust when I could buy a complete Area-P full system designed for the C-14 for $995.

Just my 2 cents worth;).

I also thought the Akra price was pretty over the top for a slip-on.   Guess I should be glad the Leo Vince SBK was still available here in the States when I bought it.   It looks good, sounds great, and is very light weight, so I think I'm fortunate to have it.

I've had Akra pipes before and always loved em, very nice!  :great: :great:

But I have to agree, that price seems crazy high if it's just a slip-on and not a full system...  ???

^^^What ZG said.^^   No slip on is going to give a substantial HP increase because the limiting factor is the stock header pipes with 2 :o catalytic converters.
Full AreaP system w/carbon can---$1020 shipped.   About 25 RWHP bump.

I'll dissent here, because I chose the Akra route.  :nananana:

Are they pricey? Yup.
Do you get what you pay for? Subjective.
Is it worth it?  If you like what you buy....

For me, the choice was based on LOOK, function, availability, AND performance.

I'm very happy with my choice, but yeah -- I paid a premium.  :-X

Everytime I look at my bike, and twist the throttle I'm reminded WHY I chose what I did, and I'm quite happy, thank you very much!  :)

Sorry Ghostrider,  I didn't mean to insult your choice.  They do look great.  I'm sure a lot of people think I'm wacko for paying obscene  $$  for PE handlebars, but I had to have the ergo choices. :great: :beerchug:

No apology needed! Everybody has their own taste and opinions...I have no issues with anybody not agreeing with my own choices.

I deliberated a LONG time about what to buy, but in the end, I am extremely pleased with my choice despite the obscene outlay of cash!  ::)

Mine are Dual Slip Ons for a 09+ ZX14.

OP is referring to a Single Sided Slip-on for the COnnie, I believe.  :great:

Ghostrider, you are correct, I was referring to a single slip-on for the Connie.

BTW, the Akras look sweet on your bike!

$1000 is IMHO is just too much for just a slip-on. No matter who make it.
I only paid a little more for a full length Akrapovic (ZX14 single side) exhaust.

Ghostrider...who's seat is that? do you have a better pic of the seat on the bike? BTW...I like the dual exhaust, I think kawi should have put it from the factory.

Obviously I am a big believer that Kawi should have made this a Dual Exhaust as well.  :great:

Looking at pictures of my bike with the potatoe launcher, I can't believe I tolerated it for as long as i did!

I would have gone with the Muzzy's dual system, but I don't like the look of the "old style" round cannisters.  I wanted a more
modern look with Squared Oval's.  Area P was the same way, but obviously the cost was more palatable for those systems.

Again - a very personal choice.  No idea what I gained or gave-up in power, but I'm happy with my choice.

thanks for the kudos.
