Aux light attachment to front struts.
« on: February 24, 2018, 01:46:27 am »
I am a big fan of having my cheap Ebay lights mounted on the front struts (Low). Came up with this idea after cracking a front fairing by using the mounting hole. These work really well Very solid with lots of fine adjustments.

Looks good.  Did you make those brackets?  If not, where did you buy them?  I'd be interested in a pair, myself.

Ditto that, curious to know where you got those.

I too, tried to use my fender mount bolts and cracked my front fender .....BADly.  >:(

Nice work.

Made them from 4130 .80 thick steel. You can probably mount most lights on them, I just like the 10W ebay spot lights. Piece of steel, torch, and something to wrap them around to get the correct curve. Went up one grip on the 2 bolts and used a locking nut on the back side of the mount that supports the light. Comes out of the fender just right with good clearance on everything.
Once they are mounted on fender support you can adjust everything with fender on. See pic.

Hey man! Is there any way you could make me a pair of those? I will compensate you obviously...

That would be ahhhhhhh-mazing. They look like a better option that the super expensive Denali mounts. Please let me know your estimation ASAP...I need to mount some aux lights in the near future pending your answer. Thanks again

Materials will be in Monday and should have 5 or 10 sets done within a week or so. Do you all want me to supply the longer bolts with them as a ready to fo set in flat black. And a #10 hole drilled for light attach? I can then post a shipped price.

Thanks

Do you have a ballpark price in mind?

I like the idea of black hardware, but I typically use stainless because the humidity in NC eats everything else.

I'm in for a set two sets as well. :beerchug:  I'd prefer that you included the longer bolts so that I don't have to chase 'em down.

I have gotten a number of messages about wanting a set of these so here is the deal.

Details on the brackets.

Made from .80 thick 4130 Aircraft steel.
I make each one by hand and are test fit on my C14.
They are drilled for the 2 mounting holes and a single mount hole for the light attach.
Bead blasted then primed, then painted with rattle can Flat black paint.
I will include 4 plated bolts to replace the 4 original mounting bolts (need a slightly longer grip).
You must mount everything with Blue loctite.
On the bolt that mounts the light I used a low profile lock nut. You could also use loctite but the nut must not be to deep. There is enough room for it between the mount bracket and strut but not much more.
You will have to take the front fender off to mount the bracket but after that you can do everything from the outside with the fender on.

They are solid and have no movement to them, They work great. If you get a pair and do not like them for any reason just send them back at your cost and I will refund all you money minus shipping.
The material gets here tomorrow and I will make 10-15 sets all at once. Should take me 7-10 days to ship them..

Cost for a set (with 4 bolts) is $45 for a pair plus shipping. So I am just going to call it $49 delivered in the CONUS. If you want a pair just PM your shipping info and what you want.I am making these by hand in a basement. And I will not be offended in the least if you do not want them. Like I said if you get them and you think they are not worth it, no probelm just send them back. I will not take any money till they are ready to ship.

If you have any questions just shoot me a email.

Thanks, Lee

I used these:

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01MDJK1AJ/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o04_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

I have them on 3 different bikes. Never had one fail (even on the bouncy end of the forks) and I think they look great. Lots of light for recognition. I use the "Spot" lights not the "Flood" lights.

Should have the brackets ready to ship by next weekend. Only 4 slots left.

Thanks, Lee

Thanks for the link. I have Mondo Moto MM-10’s and like the bright white pattern. When I saw these, I figured what the heck, for that price, I’ll buy them as a just in case I ever need them replacement.   I got the Flood lens version, to match the MM-10’s. These guys are actually better made, a bit heavier, and the lens is slightly larger. The leads are only about 10 inches long, but should splice right into the existing Mondo-Moto switch and wiring.  I’m glad I picked them up. Now for the better mount option in this thread......

Update,

All the mounts are coming along well. Should be painted this weekend and shipped this Monday. Switching to gloss black from flat black. Cost of brackets might be a little less as well. Had enough interest to make a fixture tool to produce them quicker. I will email everyone who has contacted me soon with info.

Thanks for all the interest.
