Title: Best Windshield for Cancelling Buffeting/Risers
Post by: Madman on September 26, 2012, 10:49:40 pm
There is quite the buffeting for the passenger, on this bike(depending wind/angle) and I am looking at a larger windshield BUT I DO NOT want to look through it when it is all the way up. I am just under 5' 10" tall. I will also will be getting risers but I am looking for the smallest ones. I am looking at the wedges and as well as Murph's risers. I do not want to loose much of that sport postion, so I am hoping the wedges will do it for me.
What are your guys +'s and -'s??  Thanks a head of time.

Maybe some pictures with measuring tapes on them??

I installed the V-Stream (from National Cycle) and am very happy with it. When all the way up, wind noise is virtually eliminated. It's also got some very trick coating on it that makes removing bug guts a snap with hot water and a soft towel. I also install the Murph's risers and have been very happy with them as well.

Thanks Hotwire, I definately like the look of the V-stream.
Any-one else out there that has some feed back from the riders and passengers.

Aeroflow and CalSci both make some nice windshields that provide better than stock performance.

Is there a manufacturer that makes a shorter screen to fit the Connie? I think I would prefer a little more wind vs less, and wonder if the oncoming wind were lower if there would be less buffeting. I live in FL and it's hot more often than not. More breeze would be a welcome thing for me.

Also read somewhere that some relief slits in the windscreen would reduce buffeting, any truth to that?

+1 on the V Stream. I am 5-11 and my wife is 5-7, all the way up I get no noise or buffeting and she doesn't either. I generally ride with it down unless spending lots of time on the interstate.

mehush: look at the MRA Vario. I have one and really like it for spring - summer - fall. I'm 6 foot and find it give me the same height as stock so wind hits me mid chest with screen down and full up with spoiler angled up give me almost no wind on my helmet. http://www.twistedthrottle.com/trade/productview/4990/602/ (http://www.twistedthrottle.com/trade/productview/4990/602/)

That one, with the spoiler removed might be just the ticket.

I have the Kawi tall shield on my 08 with the laminar lip.  http://www.laminarlip.com/concours.php (http://www.laminarlip.com/concours.php)  It made a big difference for both myself and my passenger.

just krue'n and jdegraff, are you guys looking through the shield when all the way up??  This might be a stupid question but this is only my second street bike.  Thanks again GENTLEMEN!!

I never look through a windshield on a bike.  I usually set mine about 1/2 way up, probably just about nose high.  The airflow goes up and over.  In rain very little gets on my helmet visor.  But I still get good air through the top vent in my helmet.  With the shield all the way down it's still pretty noisy.  But all it needs is to go up an inch or 2 and the noise decreases quite a bit.  Actually I think the V-Stream is quieter when all the way down than the stock is when all the way up.  Major difference between the two.
I'm 5'8 with a 31" inseam, just for reference.

also any comments on the calsci windshield.  Mark at calsci said ai should use the extra large    would really like to jear from you.   thanks in advance. :-[

I have the V-Stream also, it was on the bike when I bought it.  I can't imagine changing it out for another.  I am 6' and I will pop it up about an inch or two to throw the wind over my helmet shield.

V stream here also, I cut about 2.5 inches off each side of the  wings at the top of the shield , looks better and works just as good IMO , but I ride by my self only. I've driven in some heavy rain and the protection is great.

Could you post a pic of the mod you made to the shield. Thanks

I just installed a CalSci Wide XL (the new extra wide version) and it creates a bubble of dead quiet with no buffetting, virtually no wind noise.

I have risers, but I'm only 5'10" so the XL part of it overkill for me. I like it that way, the XM stereo in my helmet sound awesome even at 80 mph.

Of course, keeping the stock ugly muffler helps a lot too.

Thanks JR I am basically the same height and for long rides I am definately going to need risers and a shield to help things be pleasant for the wife and I.

I am 5' 8.5" on an OEM C14 set up.

Got my Euro Ultra Dome Cee Bailey...quiet as a mouse. No more buffeting. It is working better than my V-Stream performed on the RT. But I think you can get a large V-Stream which might work better than the one I had.

This Cee Bailey is the best I ever used.

I love my VStream but it destroyed the dash last year when the sun used it as a magnifying glass.  If you buy one remember to cover your dash when stopped in the sun.  I forgot to cover my dash last week and one needle suffered.
