Buell Pegs ??
« on: April 09, 2012, 10:51:53 am »
Does anybody have the exact part number for the Buell pegs that would fit a C-14 with the least amount of modification ??

Here are the part #s for the black ones; N0502.4AK and N0503.4AK;
I ordered them here; http://www.surdyke.com/

I have a set that are already modified  to fit the C14  and that I used for less than 100 miles before I took them off.  I did not like the pigeon toed posture to reach the rear brake.  I'll let tem go for $60.00 plus $7.60 shipping to CONUS. Pictures available with them on the bike.

Search google for Buell Ulysses that will find the nice ones. Only takes a tiny bit of grinding to make them work.

Had a set on my ZX14, should have taken them off when I traded it in, but oh well. Now I have Murph's for my Connie.

Do you like the Murph's better ?? If so, what do you like better can you give me a quick comparison if you don't mind ?? Would you recommend them over the Buells for someone with a extra long (38 inches) inseam ??

In the Murph's pic it looked like they almost angled downward, maybe it was just the angle of the pic..

Thanks..  :beerchug:

There are lowering kits to lower the height of the factor footpegs but of course they also greatly reduce ground clearance in cornering. There are also at least two other types of footpeg that are lower than stock and maintain at least as much ground clearance as a stock C-14.

From left to right: Murph's pegs, Buell Ulysses pegs and stock C-14 pegs.

The relative difference in height can be seen in these photos, and all were taken from the same place with the camera on a tripod so they show the correct relative heights:

Murph's pegs:

Buell Ulysses pegs:

Stock pegs:

The Buell pegs were fairly inexpensive but had to be modified to use them on a C-14. The pivot hole had to be enlarged and some of the end of the peg (where it bears on the bike's frame) has to be filed or ground off to have the pegs sit level. I don't know if they are still available from Buell stock or not. Murph's pegs are made for a C-14 so of course they fit the bike as purchased.

Having all three, I use Murph's pegs. They work well for me and the wide flat area is pretty comfortable.

For what it's worth (just my experience) I tried the Murph pegs. They were comfortable and I liked them. But they personally didn't work for me becuase of me.  I tend to ride toes down most of the time. It was a PITA for me constantly having my toes hit in the corners (because they were now lower). And unless I'm on the track, I don't want to lift my feet up onto the pegs in every corner. So I went back to the stock pegs.  My knees liked the Murph pegs better, but my toes hitting annoyed me. My knees didn't have to have the lower pegs, so I was OK with the OEM pegs. Like I said though, this is just my experience.
I never rode with the Buell pegs. But I sat on Brian's bike with them and really liked them. And I thought they actually looked great on his bike. I liked the more rounded (flowing) look.

You have got to grind something if you put Murph's lowering pegs though. And what if you dont like them, then you can't replace the part you grind off, right?

He was "pigeon toed" because a) the peg wasn't ground correctly - enough, or too much, or not in the right places, and / or b) he didn't adjust the brake position.

I have Murph's on my C14, which are pretty much Ulysses (Buell) pegs changed slightly, so about the same drop. I had to modify the length of the brake actuator rod and tweak the spring on the switch (per Murph's instructions which were spot on) but it was nearly the same relationship of peg/foot/brake/shifter as stock when mods were done.

Only problem I've had with Murph's pegs is I joined a ride with some fast folks, and at one point when the hero bump (more a feeler, they are so long) caught and broke off. So did the other one.

Then I proceeded to bevel the lower edges on both sides during the rest of the ride.

I'm not going to ride that way anymore, its too hard to go really fast with lowered pegs. Even my ZX14 with Ulysses would touch the pegs down if I really cranked it over, but by then I was at the lean limits of the tires pretty much anyway, so it was a good remind. Without the lowered pegs on the ZX14, I could drop into a corner and if I didn't feather the throttle until she started to stand up on exit, I could feel the rear tire slip, and once the front slipped about an inch I'm guessing and it scare the bejesus out of me. I'm too old for that crap.  :rotflmao:

You have a point, but you could put them on and not lower the brake and just keep your foot off it until you find out if you like it.

It wasn't a problem for me, because I had already experimented on my ZX14 and knew I like the lowered pegs.

I put the knight design pegs on mine. Only a 1 in. drop. Did not have to grind the break rod to get close to level with the peg.

more of my two cents worth:
Connie already makes too much vibration on bars and pegs...I would suspect it would be better to use pegs with rubber material. Secondly, the peg should fold up and back when/if it hits the ground. I have seen some static models that I wouldnever use...especially if the bike is lowered

The modified Buell Ulysses and the Murph's pegs both install just like OEM pegs, spring and all. So they do indeed fold upwards and back.

On Murph's, if you take corners hard enough you can touch them down, and if so, leave the hero bump feelers off, they will just end up being broken off anyway. Mine were, when I went on a ride with some of the fast kids at a NE rally. After I lost the feelers, I proceeded to grind a bevel on the bottom outside of the pegs, too. Thats when I knew I had to back off so I fell quite far behind them.

Once in a while I really wish I had my ZX14 or even my ZX10R back, but I know thats not a good enough reason.  :beerchug:

I find zero vibration in the foot pegs, none whatsoever, even the very few times I've ever ridden in tennis shoes. Which makes me shudder in horror but thats a different subject.

The bars and handgrips do buzz, that is a ZX14 engine thing. The ZX10R doesn't do it (at least my old one didn't, and the sportbike club in my city has a dozen members with 2012 ZX10Rs and none of those are buzzy - I even got to ride one of them, brave soul the owner was).

After putting 2" riser blocks on and Murph's wedges, and OGBs (Original Grip Buddies) I don't think I have much buzz in the grips at all now. Now that I've had some of the surgery done on my left arm and it will be healed by spring, I'll see this coming riding season if there is vibration enough to complain about. Up until now, just holding onto the left grip made my arm and hand and fingers go numb, buzz or not.

I don't notice vibration with the Knight pegs. Rode thru many a rain storm with no slips off the pegs and I like to stand up a lot. Must be the dirtbike riding I do. Also these pegs use the stock springs so they do fold up should the pegs drag. Besides I have a Tuono for major fun riding!
