I have this and it works great!  I don't like lots of stuff mounted on the bars so this mount works well for me.

I have a Ram X-Grip mounted for the cell phone.  This combo seems to work like a charm.  I was very skeptical at first, but I have no worries at this point.

All in all, seems like a good option.

This looks like a clean solution.  Does anybody know the size of the Hex socket required to remove the original Steering Stem head bolt? It’s much bigger than the largest Hex socket that I own.

26mm   Picked up a single socket at Autozone for pretty cheap.

To clarify, when you say socket are you referring to the socket that fits on the new nut they ship as the solution?  I have that one.  I was asking about the size of the Hex socket needed to remove the original nut that gets replaced.  Is that also 26 mm?  Thanks for the info.

I have the techmount.  works great :)
You only need two tools in life – WD-40 and duct tape. If it doesn’t move and should, use the WD-40. If it shouldn’t move and does, use the duct tape.

I put an inside caliper on the OEM hex bolt and measured 12 mm.  It will take a 26 mm standard socket to install the new bolt the the Ram mount attaches to.  I answered my own question!   :16: Hope this helps someone else.

ChrisB,

I had the stem mount and  I didn't like it, it wasn't sturdy enough.  Try the Ram mount that replaces one of the riser bolts with a ram ball with a hole in the center.  I have it on my C14 and it's rock solid.

I corrected this post. The OEM hex nut is actually 12 mm.  When you install the new steering stem nut, it calls for a 26 mm socket, but if you wrap the bolt with one layer of duct tape, the 27 mm fits fine and will protect the finish on the bolt.  The 27 mm socket is the same one used for the real axel nut.

I just finished installing it, and it works great.

must have been the rubber deal one you slide in the hole and crank down. Not ML replacement one.
had/have both. the ML is super stable, no regrets

I was wondering about that comment too.  The replacment nut with the Ram Ball mount from Motorcycle Larry is rock solid.

I also have the MCL and it is rock solid. The only thing I can think of is on a 6 or 8 inch extension they can move a little.

Chris,

Hoping this gets to you.   Did you go with the Moto Larry Ram Ball?  If so did you like it?

How do you undo the steering stem bolt?  From the top?  It appears smooth vs a traditional nut.

Thx

Make sure you get the 26mm and the huge allen head for that mount... it's on there TIGHT too. other than that it works well.

You will come out A LOT cheaper going this route:

http://www.ebay.com/itm/RAM-Mounts-Ball-Base-Street-RAM-B-342-/251716478317?pt=Motorcycles_Parts_Accessories&fits=Make%3AKawasaki&hash=item3a9b78a56d&vxp=mtr

it simply goes in where the plastic plug is and expands. there's a youtube video for the install, it's not hard at all.
If it ain't fast and won't corner... Crome it.
