Contact information for Advanced Sport Touring?
« on: May 30, 2014, 11:44:28 pm »
I ordered offset risers for my Concours 14 on 5/18, paying with PayPal but I have not gotten a confirmation or shipping information.  I've e-mailed them 3 times now and called twice with no results.  Does someone have information on how to contact them besides what is available through the website?  I'm sure the stuff is on the way but with my trip coming up shortly and no offset risers in sight, I'm getting a little worried.  Any help would be appreciated.  I still have all of next week to get and install them but if my order is lost, I need to be proactive in order to get them here in time.

Thanks.

I ordered the same set through Amazon (sold and delivered by AST) on May 11th. Delivery date was May 20th at the latest. Wanted them before a trip last weekend but no luck. Communication has been a challenge. I've requested twice the status through Amazon and did receive a response many days later. As I understand it, they had sold out on these and had to get/manufacture more. Latest indication was they would be sent out before the end of this week but I have not received any confirmation that they were shipped. I know I'm an impatient northerner, but I hope they don't just decided to stop selling them and I've been waiting for the offset ones all this time  :-[

That's not the reply that I was waiting for >:(.  Now I'm wondering if I shouldn't order a set of risers from someone else to get me through the trip.  I should be able to add the offset adapters later.  The Helibar risers are pretty popular it seems and they're less expensive too.

V-pilot,  I took off a set of 1.75" Helibar risers when PE bars went on.

You can have 'em for ummm… $70 shipped…sound fair?

I was gonna stack the AST offset risers on top of them with custom length bolts because they weren't quite enough for me, but ended up getting the PE bars.

I have been in touch with Ryan at AST.
He has been in an accident recently, hurt bad, and has been in the hospital.
He hit a deer while test riding his mom's Sportster, which he had been reworking the carbs on, due to storage.
Went to take it down the road to test it out, and wham!
Next thing he knew, he was waking up in the hospital.
He got to come home, went back to work too soon, tore stitches, and had to go back to the hospital!

He is home now, recovering.
Since he is the guy that makes the stuff, their supplies have gotten low.
Bear with him, he will get your orders filled soon, he says.

Not to sound heartless...I'm sorry the guy got hurt but the website still says the risers ship in 24 hours.  If he can't fill orders, he should update the website to reflect that things are on backorder.  If he can't answer his phone or e-mail, he should hire someone or ask a friend to help him out...even if all they do is reply explaining that, due to circumstances beyond their control orders are delayed for 10-15 days.  I ordered 2 weeks before leaving.  That should have been plenty of time.

Flat-spot:  I think I want to give them until Monday to see if they get back to me.  If they do not, can you get the risers our Priority Mail early Tuesday so I have them Friday? (That is if you still have them come Monday...not sure how hard you are trying to sell them)

Sorry V-pilot,  I've decided to keep them to put back on this bike when I get my next C14.  Murph has 'em though, and he can get 'em to ya quick.

Understood.
He has help, but he told me that they had sold out of the extra inventory he had on hand, and he's the guy that makes the stuff.
I don't know why he did not have someone answer his order requests, or post a message explaining what had happened...
Anyway... I'm just a member here that's ordered a few times from him before, got to know him through that and emails, and have had excellent luck with his service and products.
Just saw your post, and wanted to pass the info along.

Just to chime in here:

I ordered the integrated brake/turn signal add on a few months ago.

It came in a timely manner however the adhesive that's included to stick the light on the rack was bad.

I emailed them, it took a week to get a reply.  He indicated what was said above about the accident.

He checked his others in stock and the adhesive had failed on all those too.

He said he would figure out a fix and get back with me.

It's been 10 days so far with no fix.

I'm in the same boat. I ordered the riser/setbacks on Amazon 05/17/17. I haven't received them as of 05/31. Best riser/setbacks on the market as far as I can tell. If he is having issues he should be upfront on his website. I've emailed him several times with no response. Stuff happens. I want his setbacks. And a bunch of other products that he offers. Hope he gets well soon.

I hedged my bets and ordered a set of 2" helibar risers.   They will not ship until Tuesday with two day ups so I will have them in time to install them.  May just keep the order in for the offset risers or may cancel that and get the offsets only. I have until the end of the day Monday to hear from Ryan before I have to make any decision.
Flat-spot: understand all.   Got your pm.   Cheers.

I got an email from Ryan today. He says he's back to work. I should get my 2" riser/setbacks by the middle of next week. I think between move and the accident he was a bit overwhelmed.

He contacted me too.  I'm torn about what to do.  I clearly don't want to do my trip without risers.  The Heli-bar risers will be here Thursday.  I asked Ryan about the Heli-bars with offsets vs his offset risers.  We'll see what he says.

Risers on a C14 are very hit or miss so I would certainly give the smaller guy the opportunity to fill the order if at all possible!  Maybe you can make one ride without if necessary to further get what you really want and support a good guy...  just my thought...

I'll see what Ryan says about the offsets on the Heli-bars.  I may just keep the other order and see which one I like better.  I don't think I'll have trouble selling either one if I eat a bit of the price.  I definitely like the look of the offset risers over the offset on top of the risers.

After researching all of the riser/setbacks I could find online, it appears to me AST has the only product that offers a 2" rise along with the offset pullback in one piece. I have riser/setbacks from Helibars on my 2009 BMW 1200 that are one piece but they did not offer them for the C14. Murph's Kits has "wedges" that can be used along with risers but I prefer one piece construction. AST also offers "riser adapters" that can be use on existing risers. http://www.advancedsporttouring.com/Concours_14_Risers_p/c14-16.htm

That's what I was talking about...the riser adapters.  Not sure if I want to use the adapters on top of the Heli-bar risers or use the AST offset risers.

The reason for the AST pullback adapters is for those that already bought standard risers. As far as I can tell, AST is the only company offering a one piece 2" riser/1 " setback. I'm willing to wait for AST to get back up to speed to get the one piece. I was told that I should have my one piece by the middle of next week. I think the result will be the same if you have a one piece or two piece. Either way, I prefer a more upright riding position. Having any riser/pullback adapter is better than none. At my age, I prefer more tour than sport.  ;)

Has anyone heard back from Ryan (AST) lately? My order was placed on 5/12 and still no risers. Last I received an e-mail from Ryan on 5/22 saying I would get them the following week. I contacted Ryan earlier this week for an update and have not hear from him.

Today I received notification from Amazon that they will cancel the order if it is not shipped by 6/11 and they asked that I leave feedback on the seller. I understand the circumstances Ryan is in, but customer service 101 is keep the customer informed. Don't give dates that you can't deliver on and then ignore requests for updates when asked! I really want these, but the unwillingness to communicate is maddening  >:(

I heard from him on 6/2 saying that the order would ship next week.  I emailed him back to cancel the order since I received the Helibar risers.  He did not respond.  This morning I initiated contact through the PayPal resolution center requesting a refund.  I'm not angry but, like you I'm frustrated.  Hopefully he will refund my money that his business has been holding for 3 weeks now.  I kinda wish I had gone through Amazon.  Their cancellation process is better.  With PayPal I have to wait for him to respond.  They won't get involved for about 3 weeks.

That's really strange that he is not contacting anyone. He usually jumps on to this forum...he still must be recovering from the accident and getting his business ramped again. However, even a short note on his website would help.
