This is why I like PayPal so much. Sure you can ask your credit card company to charge back, but it takes a fair amount of time and effort to get it done.

With PayPal, if you don't get something, or its not what you ordered, or its defective and the seller is non-responsive, you log into PayPal, go to the Resolution center, and dispute it. That locks up the payment immediately. If the seller doesn't make good, PayPal will refund your money, no fuss, no bother.

I once purchased a cpu stack (back in the day when multiple cpu desktop / rack machines had cpus that were mounted into a card enclosure that plugged edgewise into the motherboard). It arrived DOA. I contacted the seller and got no response. So I went to PayPal, disputed the transaction, and they ended up taking the money out of seller's bank account and giving it back to me. Seller had no choice in the matter, to use PayPal he had to agree to those procedures in advance should a dispute go against him.

Sorry I digressed. When the economy gets bad, its very hard on a small one or two person business. Often they invest all their money and time into the enterprise, with no reserve, no line of credit like a big corporation. And something I found when I had my own business back in the early 1990s (and was doing over $1,000 a day which was rocking for a small business under a year old) is that economic downturns can be regional, it could be just fine in one part of the country and devastating in another. In my case, I had to close up shop because California had its own recession, complete with massive layoffs in Silicon Valley and all.

So chances are, AST is trying very hard to get service and production up to acceptable levels. Its not very easy and anyone that sticks it out and recovers their small business after a downturn deserves a lot of credit. Anyone that thinks we don't have severe economic problems at a national level, with depressed retail spending, needs to quit drinking so much koolaid.

And its easy to bad mouth someone when you don't have all the information.

I ordered a 2 inch riser with pull back along with their LED brake/blinker lighting kit (version 2) and received the order within two weeks without any problem last August.  the 2 inch riser with pull back was a godsend on my 3200 mile trip and the LED brake light kit installed easily as well and everytime I hit the brakes, I could tell through the rear-view mirror that it was working as cars too close behind me would almost always back away (I have the brake lights set to flash quickly then slow to a solid brake).

The one thing I would like to order from AST is their touring peg bracket and pegs..they never seem to be in stock.

Yep, PayPal is the way to go. You get gipped, or sent bad product, and vendor won't make it good, PayPal takes the money from their bank and gives it back to you. If they do it too many times, PayPal deletes their merchant account.

Easy, safe, short of meeting in person and inspecting it and walking out with it, I can't think of a better way to make a purchase online.

The temperature here in Nebraska was in the 70's today so I guess I should start looking at motorcycle stuff again.  In any event, I figured I'd update this post.

In preparation for this riding season, I asked my wife for a set of riser adapters from AST for my birthday.  Yes, I gave Ryan another chance.  The order was received quickly and was packaged well.  Granted, my sample size of one is statistically irrelevant, but it matters to me.  Not sure if he has fixed his issues or just lucked out but I'm happy.

Happy riding!

Wow....Wish i had found this thread.  I was shopping for a throttlemiester and AST had the best price so i ordered it.  that was on 3/14 and i have't recieved a follow up to my status emails and 2 calls to thier number on 2 seperate occations and no answer or voice mail.  Guess im logging into paypal to dispute it.  consider this an update that thier bad business practices and horrible costimer service havent changed.  i mean its still a bit cold in nj to ride but at least tell me when i can expect it!

Not sure if this will help or hinder but here goes: I ordered a C14 backrest from AST in mid Feb 2015, understanding that they were backlogged for at least 30 days. (paid up front via VISA). Then around April I get worried and start sending emails and leaving voicemails. Nothing nadda, not a response , or even a text. I keep sending requests about my order thru April and May. Still not a peep back. I'm thinking this is a shame but life is tuff, so move on.

Next- in the first week of June a box from AST arrives with everything I ordered there within. Hmmm? Happy customer - yeah definitely about the quality of the product; (loved the price also.) Happy about AST's customer service:? That's a bit tougher to answer.

But I thought I owed them at least my tale of waiting in the fog for a package that did eventually show up. That's not the way I would run a business, but then hey: I'm not running a business.
Be safe out there.
