Custom seat made from a Corbin...
« on: July 01, 2012, 08:39:10 pm »
Ever since I had my smuggler on my ST1300 I have wanted one on my 14 but did not want to deal with Corbin or their crappy seats knowing it would not fit me well. Well I bit the bullet and low and behold the seat was crap and did not fit either. So....I ran into a guy with another 14 on a ride who had a seat from Seth Laam in Anderson, California. Seth worked for over 10 years with Rick Mayer and is just now 3 month out on his own and 29 years old.

I contacted Seth since he is only a short 2-3 hour ride from me and we set an appt. for a ride in yesterday.  Now I am a large guy at 6'4" and about 280 lbs.  As Seth put it..its a good 280...not a bad 280..LOL

Anyway, his shop is clean, well organized, his attitude fantastic and let me tell you he did a great job on my saddle. I had the leather cover option done and he used only the finest Euro leather. The same that Mercedes Benz uses.

I have had seats from many companies, stock and custom and yes, even one that Seth's old boss did personally and none compare to the comfort and quality of this one.

If you are need of seat work give him a shout. His web site basic right now but being upgraded.

That looks like a big improvement to the Corbin, I don't think mine will ever leave home again, not as long as I have my Goldwing.

Well I have put on many hundreds of miles now on this seat and no issues so far. It is the most comfortable seat I have had  yet on any bike. A friend of mine had his FZ1 seat done by him last week and same result, perfect. Seth told me in an email he has received a few calls from this topic and really appreciates it.

Just had dinner with Seth and his wife a couple nights ago. He said he has done several seats from riders here now and has one on the way from Florida I think he said. How are you all liking what he does and his turn around time?

I just sent him my seat from New York, funny he called me the other day and said he was meeting up with you. Can't wait to get the seat back! Seth has been awesome so far, great communication and took the time to answer numerous emails with questions. I'll post when I get it back with a review. Just joined COG today as well.

Very first post here, I just had my seat from my 2012 C14 done by Seth, and let me tell you, Most excellent customer service, Extraordinary turn around time, he received my seat on a Wednesday and he had it done and ready to ship by Thursday that same week, i had my new redesign seat on the bike by Saturday, went on a 100 mile ride, is like night and day, comfortable, the pushing forward on braking almost gone, and the GF so far very satisfied with her portion of the seat.  Not only did I received a great looking seat back, but the workmanship is great, turn around time in the middle of riding season, can't ask for better service. Price with shipping included and a great discount by Seth made my decision one of the best so far. If you choose to go with his services, i doubt you will be disappointed with your call. Constant communication, personal touch, great service and workmanship, I even got a call afterwards from him to see how I was liking the seat, can't ask for more in my book. Hope this help... :great:

take a look my original pics and you can see what he did to my seat to make it better for me than the Corbin. I only went with the Corbin cause I wanted the trunk. Most if not all seats are made for small people. I am 6'4", 280 lbs. He made the seat wider, flatter, with no dish to it like is standard on most custom seats. That design just not work for a person my size. He also widened the nose and flattened it out for me to give me more movement front to back for different riding styles I do such as cruising, off the seat and hugging tank in the corners etc.  Then to top it off I had him cover it in Mercedes Benz leather. Utmost quality.

His prices are on the website. He also has a facebook page with more photos. I have a buddy who took his FZ seat to him and he loved it. So much in fact he is taking his Corbin seat he has for his dirt bike to him as well.

What is your inseam?  Looks like a nice seat.  I ask because the pocket looks like it is pretty far back.

Vagtr, my inseam is 34'', and if it looks that way is because he base the seat according to my requirements and the picture i sent him of me sitting in the bike. If it matters, i also have 2 inch risers..

34" totally explains it, I am a lot shorter so mine will look a lot different.

CH was this your stock seat after he finished working his magic?
I have spoken to him recently but have been waiting to get some feedback before I drop the seat in UPS to him.

It does look very comfy. I am hoping to kind of keep the sporty lines if at all possible. I don't want the seat to wide.

I also have a 34" inseam and will have the 2" heli Risers installed. What wind screen are you running?

CK, at this time am still riding with the oem windshield, I already place an order for a Cee Baileys Ultra Tour extra tall, am only 6' tall but like to sit fairly upright when riding, so am hoping that with this one I eliminate some of the wind buffeting on my forehead. Windscreens been so subjective is really a crap shoot as to wether this one will solve my issues. But back to seats, yes you have as you know now, ship your oem seat, the turnaround is great. Hopefully it will work for you..
