Hell, these C-14's are 2 axe handles wide anyway, so that just makes it look TALL and big!

(Love that T-shirt "Does this bike make my butt look fast?")

Pelican case or the like? Ride with passenger much? I think it cold have an adjustable position mount to move it closer to the rider. But I just ave ever like the looks and effects of a trunk way up and out over the back of the rear tire. Wen loaded up it makes sporty riding something to get used to, especially when hauling your bowling ball collection. I like the box though.

Just keep in mind the grab-rails are made of plastic and have a 22 Lb. weight limit.

With that in mind, you can hit probably 22lbs of force rather quickly with a sharp bump in the road and just the case mounted up there (Force= Mass*Acceleration).

OK then.
Phil's top rack doesn't replace grab rails, does it?
Then there is no difference between top rack I fabricated and Phil's - although his top rack looks worlds better than my homely design -  since the weakest link are the grab rails.
Am I right?
Does anyone make aluminium grab rails for Connie?

As a side note, that box used to carry a lot of weight when it was attached to my ADV (metal skeleton rack) bike with no issues at all, even over rough terrain.

I have no clue where they came from but the last owner of mine found supports for the rails that help up this spec I hope.  This pic shows them sort of.

Would you be able to take a snapshot of support from the rear, please?
Your setup got me very-very curious!

Smithr1, the previous owner put a Givi mounting kit on for a trunk. It has braces that bolt to the rear subframe. https://www.giviusa.com/my-motorcycle/kawasaki/concours-14/sr410-specific-rack-detail.

It's real easy to exceed the weight limit of the rear end on the C14.  I think thats why the stock/factory box is pretty light-weight.

It says 6.5 pounds at 80mph MAX on my KAW trunk...

How much does that pelican case weigh?

When I ran out of room in my rear trunk, I strapped a waterproof soft-bag to the rear passenger seat area.  I used it for clothes, so it didn't weigh much, but no way it would fit in the trunk.

Case weighs a porky 11lbs. I don't think "sporty" Connie can handle such commodious trunk.
I think Connie be better off with one of these "pistol" 17" x 13" x 7" case . available locally at Sportco.

Cheers...

"Then there is no difference between top rack I fabricated and Phil's - although his top rack looks worlds better than my homely design -  since the weakest link are the grab rails."

Absolutely true. The weakest link is the plastic grab-rails. The Givi SR-410 might be a problem as it has a plate that sits above the normal rack. It also carries the same weight restriction as stock.

I'm not aware of any replacement for the plastic grab-rails. Also, I've only heard of two cases where the grab-rails have broken. One said someone dived off the rack, and the other had the rack/trunk moved all the way to the rear with extended rails. ANY extension to the rear puts more stress on the grab-rais.

I think IAStan is correct.   I took a pic though if you still need to see it.  The bracket looks the same in that link though.  Mine is a bit different but uses the same mount locations.
