Givi Monokey Suggestions
« on: November 16, 2014, 03:53:13 pm »
I'm looking for suggestions on a good size top case for my new Concours. It would be nice to fit two helmets when the wife rides with me. Any help would be greatly appreciated as this is my first C14 and
trying to learn as much as possible.

Thanks, Jerry

There is the Kawi OEM 47l which is made by Givi and has the monokey mechanism....main advantage is that you can have it the same color as your bike.
2012 Black, PR4GTs, Guhl Flash, CS1 Slip-on, Blaster X Brake Flasher, Cree 10W Lights, H4 Extreme Bulbs, Baldwin Heated Seat, Screaming Banshee Horn, MRA VarioTouring Screen, Throttlemeister, Crampbuster, ProjectD Radiator Guard, Front & Rear Fender Extenders, Techspec Snakeskin Saddlebag Protectors, Techmount GPS Bracket, OEM Tank Guard, 47L Top Bag, Helmet Locks, ProjectD Kickstand Bigfoot

I just purchased one of those to match my new bike.
Does look good in matching color....
But, mine is the Monolock design.

Mounted it on top of the stock rack and it was pretty shaky so I bought Phil's Metal Rack.
With Phil's rack, it is a lot more secure.
But requires the (monolock) universal mount to install.

I'm working now to remove the Universal mount so that the Trunk will set lower.

Ride safe, Ted

I have the Givi E-55 Top Box, as pictured, with the admor lighting. It holds everything I need for long trips and it has the brake, running and turn signal lights.

What mounting base do you have?

I have the Givi V47 Monokey and I use Phils rack. No adapter plate needed. So when I take the top case off, I still  have a nice looking rack. (okay, I'll play.... Easy boys!)

I have the smallest Givi monokey series, I think it's 33liters.

My bike came with a large Monokey case that looked awful, and surely would have reduced fuel mpg and wind handling.
So replacement smallest monokey case available was 1st accessory purchase.    Like in 48 hrs.

Could fit 1 helmet, but I fill volume 40% with patch kit, compressor, emergency jacket liner, few tools, 5-hr energy drinks, headlamp, etc.
In my neck of woods I leave helmet w/ bike if other bikes are there.  Nobody's ever had a helmet stolen here.

Basically, think - really think - do you want a huge case up high on your rear?   Look at how high, and far aft, cases are mounted on the C14, above.

Only time I address maybe helmet theft is if I'm at Walmart, or at hiking trailhead where I might be gone for hours.
Your area may be different.  The Harley tough crowd reputation seems to protect all bikes, as far as I can tell ...

Also replaced plastic case mounting plate, bolted to stock rack (cracked it), with Phil's rack that does both;
quality, great looking and solid connection for Monokey cases.

Best wishes.  Welcome to forum!

I second this.  I have an E55 with Phil's rack under it.

It's large enough to hold both my Aerostitch one-piece suit (with all of the armor), as well as my gloves.

I just got the Givi Monokey V47 NT. Right before the Brrrr Ride.
I also installed the Admore lighting kit. Really a great match for the looks of the C14. I have a black '12 and the top case has an aluminum panel on the top of it. Looks great and will hold 2, yes 2, large full face helmets! When you really load it down with gear it even helps make wheelies easier!!!   :)
Mounted on a Phil's rack it is ROCK SOLID!

I have a slightly older Givi 46 monokey. I purchased the Givi rack system as well. It's designed to give great stability and that it does. Looks are... Ok.. But it is rock solid. Going to the nationals I had that case jam packed plus another bag on top of it. It didn't budge. I also purchased the givi light kit which was a complete waste of money. replaced it recently with the admore lighting kit. HUGE difference. Can't say enough good things about admore.

JERRY0012: Your question is about the monoKEY trunks. That limits you to GIVI. All the Kawasaki trunks are monoLOCK and will require the universal mounting plate. I had a 50L on my bike and it held 2 modular helmets. They are usually a little larger than full face helmets. A 47L - 55L should meet your needs.

Matt, might you have a picture of the trunk mounted on the bike? That is exactly what I am planning this winter to put on the bike, Phil's rack with V47NNT monokey. I am trying to figure how much room it leaves for the passenger.

What brand and style of seat is that on your bike? It looks really comfortable. Is it?

Thanks all.
As far as I can tell, the AdMore Lighting Com. doesn't have a light set up for the Kawasaki 47 Liter Monolock Trunk.
I sent them a note and asked for information.
Waiting for their reply now.

Thanks ZG/Zarticus. I guess it was my poor computer skills.
Was unable to locate that case on their site.
(I just sent them a note explaining that you sent me the info..)

Apparently, I confused them as well, because last night I received a note from them.
They asked me for information on the trunk so that they could research it..

I'll (probably) get a kit on order next week....
(I'm modifying a Phils Rack so I can install the Kawasaki Bag directly to the Rack). (Without the adapter)
Don't know how the AdMore Power wiring is attached to the Rack/bag, so I need to find out that info and check for clearances...
Can someone please send me photo's of this?

Ted,
The Admore lighting kit has a plug that goes right in the back of the trunk. It's not like the givi kit which was built into the rack. It's a solid water tight connection that works well.

Ted,
What they didn't mention is that you have the final say on where the plug goes on the Admore kits. You actually drill the hole in your case for the wiring.
