Strange, I just tried downloading Tyre to my PC and Norton said it's not safe and automatically removed it.  I assume it's ok, right?  Anybody having any virus/malware issues after downloading?
Ever since Peter Norton retired their software in my opinion got way over bloated and interferes more than helps. I stopped using Norton years ago because of it.
Avast is free and works better.

Basecamp sucks.  Not intuitive, unnecessarily complex and arcane.  Its a POS.  The Garmin is pretty good but it is amazing how these GPS's lag behind the elegant (free) nav apps like WAZE

I have to admit that I have never used a motorcycle specific GPS.  I have a Garmin Chartplotter on the boat,
Thanks.

Interesting ,,,,,just met a kid from Kansas CIty area that does support for their Garmin Boat products. We talked about the lamentations and I showed him this thread and similar ones on ADV. He had no idea these were not just awesome for everybody.

I have installed my new TomTom rider and so far I really like it. It is the Rider 2 and not the new 400. I installed the Tyre software from the the directory on the device itself and had no issues other than it needed to perform an update. I have played around with the software and the only thing I don't like so far is that if you drag and change the route it forces you to create a waypoint, don't really like that and there may be a way not to do that but have not figured it out yet.

I mounted the cradle on an existing center stem ram ball and ran the power to the battery. Being able to remove the unit from the cradle is a cool feature but it would be very easy for someone to remove the cradle from the ram mount and just unplug the power cable from it. But just to remove the GPS and put it somewhere safe for a lunch stop or whatever will work just fine.

Indeed interesting. Ice been in contact with garmin support and they treat me like I am a first grader. They don't listen to what I am saying and keep suggesting that I format the SD card. Even better, one tech suggested to store the routes on the GPS memory instead of the SD card. Perhaps they need to look at the very limited memory that's available on the GPS. So sum it up, I'm quite disappointed in Garmin tech support and have resorted the Google, with far better success.

Make routes with this app and send the route like a text to whatever you use (google or iPhone). You can pick a bunch of waypoints and go however you like. Until you get another gPs anyway.... But, it's been good enough to get me pretty far and wide across many cool back roads from coast to coast.
I don't even look at the screen or touch it ever - listening to the directions is perfect for riding

Sorry your are having issues SC, but map-s has been a good program overall. I am able to zoom really close in and take the unbeaten path most of the time. I do use Google street view to double check that the roads are indeed paved but thats about all.

If you were closer I would give you a 1 on 1 class on how to do this.  :beerchug:

Greg, it's not the mapping software. It's the software inside the GPS that can't read the route from the SD card.

I always delete my old routes after my trips, then install the new ones. I keep all my routes saved on my computer for future use.

I put some custom POI's on mine too like speed cameras, red-light cameras and rest areas that don't take up much memory.

I do run a Escort 9500ix to address the LEO's though. :beerchug:

I have run into GPS memory issues in the past but its been due to lots of routes loaded that I did not delete. Now I delete all the routes after a trip and start new each time.

I think I have several thousand gpx routes on my computer now that I can pick and choose from. Still make new ones all the time though. :beerchug:
