Is there an Android equivalent?  i.e. a Spot compatible program that will save up breaqdcrumbs, waypoints etc until in cell or wifi range?

Go to the SpotWalla site for the group and all the 'dots' will show up at their last locations. It is close but of course not quite real time, especially considering the update rate is in 20 minute intervals when reporting SPOT data. Not sure what it is for other apps. but it is certainly not every couple of seconds or even close to that. Still, there will be an update at least 3 times per hour, which is enough watching people traveling reasonably long distances (every 25 miles or so at highway speeds and less distance than that on secondary roads).

Hey, Mike. I just set up a Spotwalla account to use this app. I sent you and Kurt friend requests so maybe we can play with it some. Sure do miss Latitude though!  :(

Sounds like you guys are setting up individual pages and sharing them- which is great and a good use for SpotWalla.

But for the National, there will be what is called a Location page where anyone invited (anyone attending the event of course) will be invited; as you already have accounts and a working GPS link, the bulk of the work to use a Location page is already done. Just join the Location page and your position will appear along with everyone else's. Unfortunatley there are no 'bread crumbs' to leave a trail on a Location page but we can all watch each other travel to and from TN, as well as watch day trips (including down the river on 'rafting day'- nothing involved with this is limited to road use).

I will also set up a test page for all of us to test the devices / setup long before the National. Nothing worse than getting up in the morning, turning on SPOT and heading hundreds of miles away only to find it did / does not work.

Brian, I'm assuming (yes, I realize the danger in that!) that you'll post up when the Location pages are created? I looked yesterday but didn't locate one.

One of my accounts was talking about buying 20 of them. Not sure how when they set their footprints in cement by installing conveyor systems.

FYI-I have 2 devices. My SPOT and the I-PHONE. I will probably just thave SPOT on instead of the IPHONE

I made a new track today. This time I put the phone in the trunk so I could keep it powered via the USB cable. With past tracking apps I've used, they haven't worked real good with the phone in the trunk, either because of reduced cell signal coverage, or the GPS wasn't getting a signal, I never figured out which. Anyway, with the SWConnect app running and the phone in the trunk, it didn't miss a beat. Here is the track from todays ride.

Sorry about the late reply.

Yep, I will let everyone know when the page is available, as well as the 'test page' for everyone to test his / her individual device to make sure it works without actually plotting the position on the main page.

Future information about the COG portion will go in the 'Spotwalla for everyone' thread and I will try to remember to leave a pointer to that thread in this thread when the location pages are created and available.

Fred, when I click on the links for your tracks I'm not seeing anything.  It opens in a new tab and I see some data along the left side of the screen "User: FredH", "Device: Fred's IPhone", date, time, lat/long, etc.  But the main area of the screen is just blank blue space.  Am I supposed to see the actual route you took?

Tried refreshing the screen a couple of times but no change.
