So is his rack a direct connect to it? do we not need to get the extra plate they say you need?

I removed the stock rack and purchased Phils metal aluminum rack which is a direct bolt on replacement.

So is his rack a direct connect to it? do we not need to get the extra plate they say you need?

The stock rack is a bit flexy.
Many replace it with the Phil's Rack (or other) to decrease the Rack flexibility.
The replacement racks are also a bit lower than the stock rack.
There are many replacement racks available. I think Phil's Rack is the most common.

Some type of adapter is mandatory.
The extra plate they say you need is the Universal Adapter.
It mounts between the rack and the Trunk to mount the trunk.
All adapters make it possible to remove the trunk easily.
The Universal Adapter works, but is a bit flexy and adds a little height.
The SW-Motech Adapter is an improvement as it decreases that height and flexibility.
Not sure of any other options for an adapter.
Some have avoided the adapter by bolting the trunk, directly to the rack.
But the trunk can not be removed easily.

NOTE: The Universal Adapter is not needed if you buy the SW-Motech Adapter or bolt directly..

Hope that helps?
Ride safe, Ted
