It is vinyl and has a leather grainy look.  The material has a comfortable and high quality feel to it.  I just sold a leather Mayer and would rather have this vinyl, nothing against leather.  It is black in color with black stitching.  I almost got red stitching on the lower stitching bet Seth felt it was a little more red than our bikes are and I was afraid that it would not be a good match.   A little better photo.

Sound like a nice seat, what issues have you had with leather?

Leather just requires more care and attention.  It breathes better but is less forgiving and has to be covered in rain or extreme heat.  To me it was not worth the extra cost but some prefer the feel I suppose.  I kept my Mayer always soft with Skidmore's Leather Cream, I just worry too much.

VAGTR
The seat looks great, Seth got my seat today. I chatting with him on the phone over a few details. He had the seat for less then two hours and he was already working on it. Now that is what I call service. :) :)
He thinks it will be ready by Tuesday evening for shipping.
A question if I may.
Did you but extensions on your bars? In the picture they look wider then stock.
Where did you get the rear foot pegs from?
Thanks

Just an FYI; about 2 weeks ago I sent Seth an email with a couple questions. he answered them back to my satisfaction in 24 hours. Here is what impressed me, yesterday I got a phone call from him asking if my questions were answered and if there was anything else he could answer for me.

WOW  :-\ This took me by suprise and I was very appreciative of him making sure I was satisfied with the answers I received.

Even though this will probably be a late winter - early spring change for me since I am planning a SS2000 and a SS3000 this fall, I will stick with what I know for these long rides.

Just thought I would let you guys know about his great communication and customer service.  :)

:) Got my seat back from Laam yesterday and it is AWESOME!  Great service from Seth Laam - communication, price, and quality.  I chose to have just the front seat modified and for the cover I went with Bomber Black leather.  The only thing bad about the process was the length of time it took to get it from Virginia to California and back - a week each way.  However, Seth only took a day to do his job. :great:  I highly recommend Laam Seats.

Clark... That's exactly what I'm wanting to have done... So curiosity has the better of me. What are you dimensions? It looks like you're sitting more in the saddle than on it. I'm willing to deal with the additional maintenance of the leather. My Sargent is the first vinyl aftermarket seat (all my others were leather) and my butt is not happy with vinyl.

Clark - your seat seems to be dished out more that VAGTR's and the pillion is not as dished. I take it this is through discussions with LAAM on what you want. Still waiting for a full report from VAGTR....

He only had the front done, I had the rear done as well.  I have considered having the rear raised a little to cut down on the slope but at this point my wife says shes fine.  I did not want my front lowered at all, maybe he asked for it to be a little lower.

RayK and Gsun,  I did only have the front done.  I'm 5'11" (on a good day), 212 lbs with a 32" inseam.  I told Seth that I wanted to sit in the saddle not straddle it.  It does look more bowl shaped than others I've seen but doesn't seem so in person.  Actually, when Seth sent me the picture and before it arrived, I was very concerned.  I thought, oh no, what have I done.  But I really like it.  Appearance and comfort.  And of course the great service too.

Haven't had a chance to put on very many miles yet.  :'( Hopefully, this weekend.  :great:  Confidence is high that this will be one of my best investments.

Had a very nice chat with Seth this week, am now getting the saddle boxed up.

Quick question for anyone who had shipped their seat to Seth, did you remove the rubber grommets and latches from the underside of the seat before shipping it?  I had a previous seat done by Rick Mayer (Seth's old employer) and he had asked that all removable latches and rubber mounts be taken off before shipping it to him.

ta much!

I shipped a sow's ear and I'm getting a silk purse (so to speak)...

I should see this in the next couple of days.

I removed the three metal brackets at Seth's request.

Nothing but posative feed back but oddly after 4 pages nobody has posted their impression of how it feels on a long ride. For those that have the seat how do you like it vs the stock seat after a 2-300 mile ride?

I am the original person who started all this LAAM custom seat stuff and rode the saddle now for over 1500 miles and many trips of 200 plus miles. I love the seat. I don't need to get off after 3 hours in the saddle and 200 plus miles but I get thirsty. It should be noted my seat is not dished as I am a large guy. he did a total very custom job for me. You can find the other LAAM thread and see my pics which were posted.
