Luggage rack for kaw monolock case
« on: March 24, 2016, 05:38:37 pm »
I have a Kawasaki monolock top case but want to replace the stock plastic luggage rack with an aluminum one.

I've heard several times that many racks won't work with the monolock case. Does anyone know of an aftermarket rack that will work or possibly have one they want to sell?

I'm mainly looking to make sure the case is mounted solid as it has a backrest and I want to make sure it's safe for my wife to lean against it.

Thanks for any info you can give.

My rack comes from PCA and I just mounted the Monolock rack securely onto it.

Thanks. I had seen notes on phils site that his rack wouldn't work with the monolock case, but looks like there's some solid options. Thanks.

I'm inder the impression that the PCA rack is a simpler 'Phil's Rack' and the PCA backrest is from Cee Baileys.

Whatever the case - you seem to be on track to mount it nicely for the wife :great:

I just went through this conversation with Phil.  The monolock case comes with the mount shown in Fais' post.  Just use that mount to fit the monolock case to your (Phil's) rack. (Same as in Fais' post.)

You had to use the mount pictured in Fais' post, correct?

Yes but I do have the smaller OEM case and maybe you would have to move the rack farther back to accommodate a larger case but the base does fit on the rack. The base has a honeycomb under the cover and you can put the bolts through a bunch of different places.

The second URL worked fine for me.  Use the key words Givi Monolock on SW Motech's site to search for it.

The 1st url is for twisted throttle who is the U.S. SW Motech importer & they no longer carry this, The 2nd url is for SW Motech direct from overseas & they still carry them but will not ship to the U.S. because they say you have to go threw their U.S. importer which is full throttle. Kinda like a catch 22, I managed to figure out a way & mine will be here in a couple weeks  :)

To me, replacing the oem plastic gives the whole assembly a more solid feeling.  I think the OP would be satisfied that his wife is going to be able to lean against a solidly mounted trunk with Phil's rack and the SW-Motech bracket.

For Z, the instructions are below...I don't think you'll need them.  It's pretty self explanatory.

Installed.

Included are a handful of rubber bumpers that my rack is not drilled for (Phil's).  I'll probably go ahead and use some thin foam under the top case to prevent any rattles.  The rack was pre-drilled and tapped in all the right places.  :beerchug:

So wait, where did you get yours from if TT is out of stock? 3 hrs north of where?

I have the nylon Monolock baseplate that came with my block, but it has always been missing the plastic cover that hides the honeycomb, and has always looked ugly, the steel adapter kit is a great solution for me.

Thanks for the pictures  :beerchug:, I have a phils rack also but mine is not pre-drilled. The bottom does have holes started in the locations that look like where this will mount, I think I just have to drill them out the rest of the way. I cant' wait to get this & stop using the crappy plastic plate

Please tell, did you call SW Motech direct? How did you get one to ship if TT not gonna restock?

Any chance one you lucky boys stationed out in Germany can help a fellow 22-yr retired Vet out and ship me one If I PayPal you?

I went straight to SW-MoTech.  The second link was their website.  They seem to be some nice folks to deal with....

Twisted Throttle has discontinued stocking the adapter kit, and SWMotech has an agreement to not ship direct to the USA. If you want this kit and you are in the USA...Order from RDmoto pay in Euro's using PayPal. Cost was less than $45 USD shipped. The link:
