One key for all locks! (including Givi Maxia E55)
« on: March 16, 2015, 10:15:05 pm »
So the new 2015 C14 accessories include a monokey V47 box with a key that is matched to the bike.

http://www.kawasaki.com/Accessories/Item/ZG1400EFFL/999940528

Question - could that lock be put into an E55? Both are monokey....

The part numbers are different between the V47 and E55 according to Givi.ca but it might be becasue of other junk included in the lock set. I don't know locks.....

All or almost all of the Monokey locks have a removable cylinder assembly. I am quite sure that is what Kawi is using to match the key of the bike. Also I would be certain that there is a Kawi specific number you would want to be ordering in order to match it to your bike. I have to check into this tomorrow when I pick up some parts at my dealer.  Guess I will have to order one for my V47 at the same time!

My dealer ordered the kit for me. I'm also buying the E55 from them so if it doesn't work there is no risk for me at all.

I'm much more excited about this single key thing than I expected! I hope it works!  :)

Sounds like good sense on KHI's part. If this work, I will eventually do it to mine. Much easier to just use the bike key.

No dice. Dealer said that the lock cylinders are not compatible....the new one is bigger is simply wouldn't fit. I asked them to hold on the the new lock so I can look at it when I pick up my bike. If I think it can be jimmied in there somehow I might just buy it anyway and try at home.

Poop.

Oh well, I still really want my E55 case even if I have to use another key. I'll just keep two keys on a ring in my pocket for the bags/tank and trunk.

I don't know about yours, but my ignition key actually slides into my E55 lock. It's not very snug, but neither is the original Givi key. Because the cylinder comes out and the wafers can be removed from the tumbler, I was thinking I could buy a couple of these:

http://www.giviusa.com/givi-products/spare-parts/case-components/z661-lock-set-e52-v46-detail

and piece together a lock that worked with my ignition key. That, or contact Givi to see if they would supply me with the lock manufacture's information so I could buy an assortment of wafers.

I'm going to pick up my bike in a few days...this coming Wednesday. I asked them to hold on to the lock so I can see it....might be able to make it work but the dealer is saying there is no way. I won't know for sure until I see it with my own eyes. I'll update if it will work, if not then it's a dead issue for now.

I have quite an assortment of lock wafers. Can you post a picture or two of yours and I'll see what I have?

Well, I'm sure I could rekey it for you if I had your plug and key, but I couldn't ship you working wafers.

There might be a simpler fix.

I saw someone (don't recall who) that had modified their lock so that the key could be removed in the Locked,, AND in the Unlocked position.
Worked well because he could still lock/unlock the mechanical lock on the V47, without having to use his key each time.

Is this possible, or had he just wedged something into his lock?

Ride safe, Ted

I'd be willing to send you the tumbler, original key, ignition key (copy) and some cash if you want to give it a try. :) Also, I'd like to get my Muzzy helmet locks re-keyed too if possible. They are the same kind. It's ironic that the ignition key slips into all those locks but opens none of them. Let me know if you are interested and maybe we can work something out? You might be able to sell the service here to make some extra $$$.

I believe you can simply remove one of the wafers to achieve this. However, my problem is having to carry a set of keys to unlock everything. I want a single key to unlock everything. Then, I only have to carry the fob.

How about you ship it to me and I'll have my apprentice so it?  He needs the practice.  Don't worry, I'll watch!  Whatever the shipping costs you just put in the package and I'll ship it back.  My mail drop is in 98320

I picked up my bike yesterday and bought the one key system. Here are pictures of the kit and a copy of the instructions. I haven't pulled the lock from my e55 yet but I'm hoping there is some way to make this work.

I wonder if I could just use the new wafers in the old lock?

I bet the wafers would work. They look very similar. Does your ignition key fit into the E55 like mine? The lock looks slightly different. Mine had a square part on the back that the release mechanism secures itself to with the C clip.

My bike key wouldn't fit into the lock until I removed a thick wafer near the opening that was set for the shape of the security key. I took all the wafers out and replaced them with some of the wafers that came with the "one key" lock. BINGO!

I now have a "one key" bike with a Givi E55 Mafia top case.

Dude,
You are GONNA have problems if you keep using that stove knob key for locks other than the ignition. We have been down that road. Only a matter of time.
Nice vid tho!

That was just for demo purposes. I'm going to have some spares mad but I'll be using the key from the fob most times.....plus it will help me not lose the fob!
