Opinions on Delkalvic
« on: March 17, 2018, 07:31:10 pm »
Looking at this Delkalvic slip-on. It seems most everything I have seen people are happy with them and the price is certainly reasonable but thought I would ask for specific opinions from those who have them before pulling the trigger.
This is the one I am looking at, as a low price piece how do you all feel about its quality and basic fit and finish?

Grant, I don't have a Delk. but would be concerned with the loudness of that particular one.
The body OD {appears to be smaller than the others}, and the big exit port cause me some concerns.

A call to Delk. will get you some info on that.

Everyone reports good fit and finish on other Delk's. So I would think this one would be the same.
I think some have reported that the mid pipe fit was a little loose on some.

Thanks Ted, I did find an old thread from 2013 that stretched into 2015 about a Delkalvic group buy.
I also saw that ZG had one so maybe I should rattle his cage  :)

I have a Delkevic 18" CF Oval that I purchased 11 months ago
Very good quality and certainly exceptional finish
Mine came with the silencer that I modified with a 1" through hole on the end
The decibel difference is noticeable but no way near obnoxious. It is also louder than KAW stock exhaust.
It can be repacked and it is definitely worth the cost

My research, calling Delkevic direct, confirmed that a shorter exhaust will be higher decibel
There is a bike owner near me that has the dual exh Del Stubby 14's, similar to what your looking at, on his CB919f
I've heard his, it is not obnoxious but it is louder than a KAW stock exhaust, if one so desires that quiet  tone. I do not desire that.
I had Two Brothers on my 2008, it was straight through but had a very nice tone. Again, not obnoxious.

Obnoxious means "v-twin open exhaust" obnoxious

I am very happy with mine. Without measuring I am thinking it is the 18 inch. Mine is just a tad louder than the original. No problema or complaints.

You will need a heat shield for that midpipe
Example: https://tinyurl.com/yax72tf4

2011  KLR650   688 piston ported and polished
2011  KTM 530    This thing is FUN!!

I have the 14" carbon oval can model. Works as advertised. Loved losing the extra weight. It is not loud at all baffle out.

I’ve got the 18” tri-oval and have had no problems. I ran the baffle for a short time but took it out and not that much louder. I’ve had mine for several years no problems.

I've had an 18" Delkalvic chrome oval exhaust/pipe on my 2016 since last Dec.
There's not a lot of db difference between the OEM and this one.
I wanted the exhaust to exit behind the saddle bag instead of under it, hence the 18" length.
It is certainly better looking and there is a significant weight reduction advantage, probably close to 20 lbs.

I didn't purchase it for any performance gains, if there are any.
I haven't needed any heat shield to this point but now that the weather is warming up it might be something to consider.

Thanks guys I ended up getting the 14in cut carbon fiber. I absolutely love the sound, not obnoxious but very definitely more aggressive. In my opinion the quality is better than what I expected considering the price. The carbon fiber portion of the can only gets warm to the touch and the unguarded portion of the pipe seems to be tucked out of the way enough not to matter.
