Powerlet on C14
« on: October 30, 2010, 02:09:55 pm »
Has anyone installed a Powerlet socket in the "knock out" on the left side of the instrument console?  Does it fit in the opening, or do you have to shim the socket to hold it in place?  I want to install one of these, and I don't want to drill holes in the left fairing panel like in their video for the C14.

There is a brace behind that panel that you'd probably need to dremel out a bit to make it fit. The brace has a square hole in the center of it. I don't know if your powerlet would fit without making the hole on the brace larger or not. I put a switch there on my 08 for some heated grips.

A alternative location. This makes for an easy direct wire to the battery through the hole in the back of the battery box.

I just bought my 08 C-14, coming off a BMW. All my plug in stuff is has BMW style plugs so I wired up a BMW socket in the left side knock out like you were thinking. It took some wiggling and finessing to get it in there without having to modify the brackets under the knock out. I don't think you could get a full sized outlet in there without modifying that bracket.
