Radar detector earpieces
« on: October 30, 2018, 01:12:20 am »
I use a Uniden radar detector and have struggled with it on the Concours. The Concours being the speedwagon it is, the detector is a big help. But, mine mounts to the side where I can't easily see or hear it, and I have to look down at it to tell if there are cash patrol indications. Very distracting.
I looked at alarm lights and other nonsense but dismissed those approaches for one reason or another.
On a whim I bought a pair of MotoComm Thumper 2 helmet headphones to try and they solved the problem amazingly well. The speaker units are soft, thin and slightly formable to the inside of the helmet. The phones are separable so you can go with just one channel. In case one breaks, you have another as backup.
The alarm volume is more than adequate with earplugs at speed using just one headphone. The jack plugs straight into the phone jack of the detector and is loud and crisp enough to be easily heard in every condition I have encountered. The phones are thin and soft and do not interfere with ear clearances in my Arai. It is a well thought out and executed product. I can not comment on durability yet.
I can now ride with my attention undivided.

Highly recommended.

Do these mount permanently in the helmet?  Have you tried lstening to music with them?

Do you have a Sena or other BT branded headset? Can they play nicely together via bluetooth?

I run the HARD device for years and years with my Escort radar units.. Won't work with the Uniden though.
