Replace OEM power outlet with Powerlet?
« on: April 30, 2012, 12:15:31 pm »
I found a lot of posts asking about putting an outlet in the left side. I'm interested in replacing the OEM power outlet with a Powerlet one. Anyone done it? Is it a drop in fit?

TIA

As long as you can get to the nut holding the oem outlet in, and there is room to reinsert the nut for the powerlet socket, they are probably the same diameter.

So it should fit, but it may not be a "drop in" replacement if there is a square bracket behind it like on the left side. I've not looked.

Do you have any problems with it vibrating out? I'm getting tired of my GPS power cable coming loose every time I wack the throttle open.

Wedge a toothpic in between the inside wall of the oem plug socket and your gps plug, then break the toothpic off at the end sticking out so you can't see it. It works great and is basically a free fix, I did this for my radar detector plug over a year ago and it hasn't wiggled out since...  :)

I put one in on the left side and I am pretty sure that Advance Sport Touring has the powerlet replacement for the cigar lighter on right side. I will look tonight when I browse.

Just checked and they just had an adapter, Before my order came I did have a powerlet in my tool box and I pull the right front cover and and pushed the wires into the plug in for the wiring connection to the cigarette lighter and ran mine a week with the Zumo wiring feeding down the handlebar wiring to the right panel. Infact the powerlet is still hanging under there. Had to have it for my XM.

It fit in there very tightly.
