Title: V&H CS One question

Good morning.  For those members with knowledge of the Vance & Hines CSOne....did the sound insert come with it?  If it did, what sizes does V&H include in the box?  If no inserts where included, how did you order and do you recall the part number?

Using vendor and V&H sites I am finding it almost impossible to determine with certainty whether one is included (most sites say they are insert capable).  I am also finding it tough to confirm (again with certainty) that the inserts listed on some of the vendors sites are actually the ones I would need.

I have the black V&H CSone installed on my 2010.  I believe it comes with the largest insert they provide, installed.  I found someone on the forum selling a 1 7/8" insert, which I purchased and does quite it down a bit.  I like it.  However, I can't honestly tell you exactly where on the net to purchase from.  I would suggest contacting V&H directly.  They should be able to assist.

Larry, I am looking to purchase the CS One slip on. I have been on some sites and Tube trying to listen to the sound and it sounds good. Are you pleased with them or wish you had purchased something else. I like the Two brothers sound as well but like the looks of the CS One. You thoughts?

I did quite a bit of research and for me, I just liked the sound and the look of the CSOne on the bike.  For me, it's what I wanted and am very happy with it.  I haven't had any of the other can's on my bike....have a Muzzy's titanium on my 2001 ZX-6R and that sounds good as well.  To each his own I guess.  I do not believe you will be disappointed.

Good morning Rocketman.

I decided to go with the CS One as well and have been pleased with it.  I have had quite a few different brands of pipes over the years and the CS One quality and finish are impressive.  There were a couple of things I liked about the CS One....these are clearly my opinions only but maybe something to consider. 

-One was the shape of the muffler itself.  The angular shape seemed to fit with the lines of the bike better than a round or oval.
-Two was the alignment of the muffler to the bottom of the saddlebag.  Many of the pipes I saw pictures of it seemed the muffler and the bottom of the bag were not parallel.

I have not ordered a sound insert for the muffler yet.  The only time I am wishing I had one is during my early morning departure for work when I am ridding out of the neighborhood (I'm getting good at short-shifting).  All other times and out on the highway the sound does not seem intrusive and when you ride the bike aggressively and wind it up a bit....it sounds glorious!:-)  Even my wife commented after a ride that it sounded good and was not too loud.

The CSOne comes with a wide open the insert. If you want a smaller diameter, you have to order it separately. I don't know what the cost is of the inserts. I tried their smallest insert (I think it was 1.5) and it made a noticeable reduction in sound, but it was still louder than stock, especially when you get on the throttle. The insert is removed with a small set screw in the bottom of the end of the can, and you then pull it out and replace it with a different size.

From an astethic standpoint, I think the CSOne is the best looking pipe out there, but if you're looking for quiet, then I suggest you look at the the LeoVince.

Just purchased the 1.5. It changes the tone and is more mellow.  Called V & H. Had it in one week.  Cost$50.

I tend to agree with all of you. I took the plung, they will be at my door next Thurdsay. By far IMO they are the best looking out their. I cant wait to install and see how they sound.

Although biased (since I have one myself) I think you made a great choice!  Did you go with the polished or black?  Although I really like the black I decided to go with the polished....only because I know I can get my metal polish out to touch up the finish if there is a need.  Although I was a little worried about the 'bling' of a polished can....I think it adds a nice contrast to the black color of the bike. 

I'm sure you will enjoy it and before you slip it on....take note of the weight difference...it is pretty amazing!

Fred, Looked at your pics of the new exhaust and looks great. Still waiting for mine to arrive. I have a couple of questions, Is the pipe showing and discoloration between the heat shield and the muffler. And off the subject a little, who is the manuf. of the tank bag your using? Looks to be a good size and will hold a good amount of stuff.

Finally recieved my new CS one exhaust. Took it out of the box and everything looked great, took off my stock system and started to install. Looked at mid pipe and noticed it only had one spring retainer loop instead of two. Then I realized that it was 90 degrees off from top. Hmm, Then I started looking for the mounting bolt that held the muffler bracket, no where to be found. Now I'm getting pissed seeing that I waited so long to recieve it.

 Had to call Distributor and they said call V&H, so I did and they dont understand what happen, so bottom line is now I have to wait till they make a new mid pipe in production which is going to take another week. As you can tell, Im not a happy camper at this point. Just hate waitng for new farkles lol

Why is it that I never hear these stories about all the other pipe manufacturers? Just when I think V&H has gotten their collective butts together. Along comes another story of how someones new CS ONE has something drastically wrong with it. They may look nice, but come on!   ???

Sorry to hear of the trouble Rocket.  Reading your post prompted me to go outside and look at mine.....I only have one spring clip on the mid-pipe as well.  When installed on the bike the clip on the inside of the pipe (facing the wheel).  Both springs clip to that same point.  On the bolts....I am trying to recall but believe I re-used one or both of the OEM bolts. 

I can check the box when I get home if it helps....

I called Vance & Hines and they said that they only have one insert:  A165SSN and that it only drops it down a couple of decibals.

Again I love the look and the throaty sound but would like it alittle quieter.

There is 1 clip on the mid pipe and 2 clips on the slip on. The springs mount upper and lower on the slip on to the 1 mounting point on the back of the mid pipe.

Your fine bro. I have seen atleast a dozen of the CSone's on the C14. They all have 1 spring mounting point on the mid pipe.

You have made my day my friend, now I still have to wait on the mounting bolt but thats better than 2 weeks. I called V&H and told them the scoop and they are going to just send the missing bolt. Again, thanks for your help and taking time to take the pic. Much appreciated

Now I have to look at your pipe for the next 4-5 days and drewl till I get this bolt Im missing  :'(

RR, Which bolt are you missing? If it's the one for the tab on the mid pipe next to the center stand, use your oem one.

It's the bolt that connects the muffler bracket to the peg. Thanks for the pic. I understand the connection point now, just different from my Busa I was basing it on. It makes for a cleaner look from the outside.

Finally got it installed today. Went to local Kawasaki shop and purchased a bolt that will work until the correct length comes in next week from V&H.

The outcome, well "AWESOME"  :) The sound is just right, not to loud and sounds great when you get on it. Totally satified now that the issues have been resolved.

A special thanks to Axxman for sending me the picture so I could see what the heck was going on.

If I recall, three dB "quieter" is about half as loud (or twice as loud if you go the other direction).

I like the looks of the CSOne, and almost bought one, but ended up with the Leo Vince which I really like a lot.

Yeah, "a couple of decibels" is actually quite a lot since db is measured logarithmically.  For instance, 2db is twice as loud as 1db but 3db is twice as loud as 2db - and 80db is twice as loud as 79db.

I need to correct my earlier statement a little. I read where there are three measurements when talking about dB. The two main ones are "volume/loudness" and "acoustic power/sound intensity". When talking about volume (the one that is objectively "heard"), -3 dB is .816 times as loud and -10 dB is half as loud and -20 dB is .25 as loud.

To quote what I found:

Which increase corresponds to a doubling of the sound?

An increase of the sound level by 3 dB corresponds to a doubling (factor = 2) of sound intensity.
An increase of the sound level by 6 dB corresponds to a doubling of the sound pressure.
An increase in the sound level by 10 dB corresponds to the sensation of double the "volume".

Ok I bought the cs1 back in february ready to install now I ordered the quieter baffled insert while ordering they also suggested the fuelpack so I ordered the fuelpack from my local harley store
Question has anyone used the fuelpack it looks hard or difficult to install is it worth the effort

I would have skipped the fuel pak, you don't need it if you are only changing the pipe. If you were doing a full system and adding an aftermarket air cleaner that allowed more air in, then yet, you want to do something to manage the fuel.
