Vstream or Puig touring windscreen
« on: October 07, 2018, 12:53:37 pm »
Good morning fellow Concours riders.  I'm new to the Concours, traded my R1200RT for it.  It is a 2012.  From the pics I've seen it appears to have a Calsci windscreen.  I am not liking it.  My RT had a Vstream and it performed well.  I am considering another Vstream or the Puig touring.  Any input would be great.  I am 5-10.

Thanks,  Dan

Take a look at the MRA Vario with adjustable spoiler.

Dan, I'm 5'-9".
I also have the MRA Vario.

I thought the shield would be too low when Cliff had me give it a try.
Found out that the low shield offers better wind protection {less buffeting} than a stock shield.
Impressed me enough that I bought one as soon as I could after the test ride..

1 thought; As your in the North, the X-creen might be better option for you {as it might give better wind protection when it's cold}?
Look for others opinions based on that.

Ride safe, Ted

Ted:

Thanks for the additional info.  I am in Indiana, just North of Indianapolis.  Sounds like I better find one to look at.

Thanks again,
                    Dan

I'd say buy the Vstream, so I can have hank's MRA!!!  :)

In all seriousness....I'm 6'1", and have the Calsci XL Wide.
It's fantastic at giving wind protection for the upper torso and hands, but still not tall enough to give me a bubble of silence
or buffet-less protection with the screen all the way up.  Top of the screen at full up also breaks my vision plane, which also is annoying.  But that doesn't mean the Calsci isn't a good screen - because it is.

Not recalling anybody discussing PUIG's here, but in complete truthfulness - Windscreens are completely Subjective.
Also, you need to account for seat height, bar risers, riding position, helmet style, inseam vs. torso length, etc.
Most of these variables are rarely discussed or added to reviews of ind. screens in relation to fit and function.

If you end up buying Hank's MRA, and don't like it, I'll buy it from you.
Hit me up on pm, if that's the case.

I think most guys here go through at least two screens before settling on one, and some never find the perfect fit at all.
Personally, I use my OEM Kawi screen for the warmer months, as I prefer a breeze in my face and torso.  Winter gets the Calsci for more wind and weather protection.  It works.

*also worth checking out, is the Madstad brackets*

good luck.

Just got a puig touring screen and I love it. I have had a few others and so far the Puig is my favorite. I use it with the Madstadt brackets.

In other discussions, folks have had their windshield mechanism fail because of the excess loads exerted by big/tall windshield's.
I suspect ""their riding speed" falls in to this too.

That is partially why I opted to use the MRA.
It is smaller and diverts the wind instead of blocking it.

I am not saying the bigger/taller shields are bad.
Just bringing it up as a consideration.

Ride safe, Ted

Fellow riders. I got the MRA.   We’ll see how it works and I’ll keep you posted.
Thanks for all the insight.   Again, I’m new to the Concours and the site,
really enjoying both so far.
