I'm with Matt, ROSTRA!!!!

I can probably afford the Rostra, and could install it. I just don't ride enough slab, or commute so I can't justify it. For now the O-ring is working when I need a break on the throttle hand. It could help with speeding I suppose, because the C-14 has two speeds when on the throttle. Fast and FASTER  :motonoises:

Does rostra have a cruise control that just bolts on the C14 yet? I'm comfortable with wrenching and did the valve adjust myself, but for some reason, i'm a little timid about hacking up my bike and Macguyvering a cruise control thats really meant to be used on a car. It just doesn't feel right in my book.

Thoughts?
You did you own valve adjustment and your worried about doing a Rostra install??   You will not have any issues installing a Rostra. You have already proven your abilities.
NO you  do not 'hack up ' or MacGyver your bike. The install is clean and professionally done. All the leg work has already been done for you and there are thousands  and thousands of bikers with Rostra's already  installed.   Why dont you read up on the installation  first so you have an idea of  what is involved.

X9rider,
I have now done 2 Rostra installs. one on an '09 and one on a '12. Almost identical with the exception that the '09 is getting canyon cages requiring a different mounting location for the unit. I am spending far more time doing cleanup on the wiring than on the actual hookup. I cut over three feet out of the harness and soldered it all back together. This way there is no slop hanging out and needing to be tied up and out of the way. The only thing you have to work at is drilling the arm on the throttle body for attachment of the cable. you would have to do this same procedure even with the 1000.00 McCruise unit. Take your time and make it as clean as you want. It really isn't hard.
NOTE:  A large selection of Posi-Taps is a wonderful thing to have.

I had the chance to try on of the units that look like calipers and fasten onto your grip. I think it was the gocruise unit. I see what you mean about decel on hills. Its much better for slabbing it.

I put a Throttlemeister heavy throttle lock on my 2014. I've been very pleased with it. It's easy to install and it works great! It looks great and they offer several options on finish. It keeps the throttle where you set it, unlike other types I've used that either vibrate loose or drag when off if adjusted to keep it locked. It's safe to use and releases quickly, if needed.

A nice bonus is a reduction in high speed vibration due to the heavier than factory bar weights/throttle lock.

It comes down to a cruise control (apples) to throttle lock (oranges) comparison and personal preference. The Throttlemeister lock is quick to install, cost less than electronic cruise, it serves the job of allowing one to rest their throttle hand, and it's safe since it's easy to disengage or it's friction can easily be overpowered in case of emergency.

Purchased a throttlemeister over the winter. Only tried it a couple of times but pleased with it as far as relatively flat slab riding goes, although I agree it's not ideal for hilly country. Excellent, precision quality item but got to pay close attention to getting the shims correct when installing it.

So I've put just over 1000km on my bike, with probably 50-60km using the throttlemeister. I love it. It's fantastic. No slippage.....perfect precision fit. I was alone on a stretch of hilly road and turned it on....it slowed down and sped back up but I just let the bike do it's thing.

They look great....no added bulk, levers, or switches.....and it works much better than the the old vista cruise I had on my last bike.

Short of a real electronic cruise system, the TM rocks.

Got the TM on mine, but it's so hilly around here that I rarely use it. I can't stand constantly having to adjust it, and I hate dropping from 80 to 45 when climbing a hill...and it's probably a bit dangerous if I did. Gotta admit, though, the TM on long trips at least gives the right wrist a welcomed break now and then, even if just for a few seconds.

This is a good looking unit. Hope it works.

I can't stand the bar end units = somewhat difficult and somewhat dangerous to apply.

I started with a Omni-cruise and went all in on a Rostra after 3 months. Didn't like adjusting it all the time. Too many hills around here.

I have the Throttlemeister  It slips after a few minutes.  I removed a thin shim, it's an improvement.  Not sure if I want to pull out another, because I want to be able to "override" it when necessary without turning it off. Maybe I'm expecting too much.  Had the other type before that locks on the brake lever, but that slips, too.

What's the level of effort for the Rostra, and where's the best deal?

BTW: that Atlas kickstarter one ... $105????  Really?

Mark,
I would rate the Rostra install a 6-7 out of ten on a difficulty. Ten would be equivalent of a full on valve adjust using only pliers.
It takes a fair amount of time to do it right. There is nothing specifically "hard" on the install, just time consuming and even a bit tedious. An accomplished motorcycle tech should be able to pull it off in 5-6 hours doing high quality work. I can do it in about the same time frame now that I have done 2.  You do need to have ALL the pieces of the puzzle ready and waiting at one time.  Here is the kicker;  do not allow yourself to get psyched out about the difficulty of pulling the plastics and doing the install. It really is NOT that hard. Take your time and solder all your connections, route the wires neatly and cleanly so there will be no issues later on down the road. Wrap everything with corrugated tubing to keep it from being chafed.  Last step, ENJOY THE NEW CRUISE THAT YOU INSTALLED!!!

Sorry Murph, The best deal is on Amazon for 172.00 for the unit, and 75.43 for the lighted switch with the engage light. Free shipping too.  Get the began switch mount from Murphs for 20$

Or bring it by with a keg  (imported only please) and I will do it.   :)

Wow Matt, you work cheap! Had I known this earlier I would have had you install mine. Of course I would of had to make sure that beer stayed fresh on top of the keg for you. This would have required frequent sampling on my part.

IMO, I would order one with the engage light.  I didn't think it was a big deal when I ordered my CC, but now that it's installed, I'm certainly glad to have that little light. And CC!!
