Where to buy: Backrest(s) for TopBox
« on: September 14, 2018, 03:05:42 pm »
Does anybody know where to buy the back rest padding to mount on a rear rack top box??

I know there's more than one vendor out there, but totally cant' think of any right now.  :-[

If anybody has a preference, I'd be appreciative of the feedback as well.

Amazon.  For example, Givi V47NNT backrest. <---Click.

Do a search for your topbox make and model and it should show up.

 :-[ :-[ :-[

Had it in my head that it was ONLY aftermarket specialty.

HOWEVER, I have seen others that look better.  For instance, I'd really prefer to not have to drill more holes in my box, as I'd like to be able to remove the pad when shes not using it.

So, I would like to know if there are any more options out there.
Mine is an E55 Givi, and the Givi pad is $72!!?  :-\
No wonder I haven't bought one yet.

Thanks guys.

Some guys have made their own. I'm actually thinking about  removing mine because I think it's too thick. My wife really doesn't need it because her jacket has a backpad.

That was my though on the GIVI pad, Ron: looks too thick.

My pillion has also commented she's fine with the comfort because she also has a back pad in her jacket.
This could be a short search.  ::)

made my own from scrap piece of 1" thk neoprene foam, and attached it to my Shad case with 3M black trim tape... works great, looks fine, after 10+ years, just thick enough to offer a soft surface if momma wants to lean against it... which she does often (and actually sleeps..)
 :-\
you could even attach it with some velcro tabs, for easy removal, I considered it, but didn't want to waste the velcro... :rotflmao: :rotflmao: :rotflmao:

Thanks MOB.

Velcroe was my initial thought, and I have PLENTY!

Can't say as I have any spare pieces of Neoprene laying about, however.

Might have to get online and search for some.  Although, I'm not going to go SO cheap, that i'm strapping
one of those Stadium cushions to my top case.  I have my limits on going cheap.   ::)

I checked McMaster Carr... all the stuff they have had "Gold" prices...
and huge size beyound what you need..
Closed cell foam is what you need, and the most common is Polyethylene, the stuff used for slip on water pipe insulation, and swimming pool toys "snakes", and such..
The stuff I had was closed cell Neoprene, and EPDM, both, and it's expensive... but it was scraps, so free....
check the phonebook for local foam rubber distributors, or people that are secondary users of the stuff, like places that do custom box and case inserts and such...
all ya really need is a piece 1" x 4" x 14", and they would toss something like that in the scrap bin, or if you bought it from them would give it to ya for $1...
This place is local to me, right by the house, went to school with the head of sales...
https://www.americanfoamproducts.com/materials/
Don't know what color, or what is in stock, but it would cost more in postage than the material cost is..
He sold me a piece of High density memory foam, 6" thk x 6 ft long x 40+" wide, for $20...
and even better, it was in Cleveland Browns Orange color... which was a bonus, as it was for my Crate and Barrel wooden porch settee... :rotflmao: :rotflmao: :rotflmao: :rotflmao: :rotflmao: :great: :great:
