ZG goes down!! Top Block saves my Connie!!
« on: April 22, 2012, 12:16:55 am »
Well, it happened...  :'(   But yet it has a very happy ending!!  :)

I backed my Connie down to the end of the driveway for some other pics, I was wearing shorts and sandals, after I took some pics went to bring her back in the garage (in between mama & daughters cars in the driveway), bad angle, bars turned all the way to the left, slippery sandals, and yep she starts to go down and nothing I can do to save this gigantic behemoth...

Heart pounding out of my chest for a brief second until I saw that the Top Block protection had done it's job!! NO DAMAGE AT ALL!! ZERO!!  ;)

Nothing other than the Top Block points hit the ground at all, not to my left side Muzzys, not to my left side bag, not even to my left side mirror, ME HAPPY!!  :bravo_2:

I really think what saved it was a two part combo of both the Top Block slider kit...

http://forum.cog-online.org/index.php/topic,26692.msg162051.html#msg162051

AND

the just installed last week Top Block swing arm sliders...

http://forum.cog-online.org/index.php/topic,33215.msg173595.html#msg173595

Here's the pics for proof! Don't anybody ever try to tell me going forward that the Top Block protection isn't worth the $$, it totally is and did it's job just as I'd always hoped to never test...  ;)

Enjoy the pics... This was the hardest part for me, instead of immediately picking her up to stop and take pics...  :'(

Notice the mirror not touching the ground!!

Notice the rear swing arm slider keeping my Muzzys off the ground!!  8)

Very minimal scuffing to the Top Block points, they are a soft plastic so I should be able to buff them out with some fine grit sand paper and be good as new!  :beerchug:

About 1 or 2 mph if that G, just basically easing out the clutch from a dead stop while totally turned left up hill, just dumb...  :-[

I know you felt a sudden pang when she dropped, but its wonderful the bike was not damaged and you demonstrate with pictures why it wasn't damaged.  8)

This is the first time in all my life (have had a couple dozen bikes and many went down one way or another) that I've had a bike go down and not be pissed at all, that alone is worth the cost of the Top Block, I actually feel good about knowing they work now! I feel totally fine right now, and not mad at all!  :beerchug:

Nice save, thanks for sharing. FYI, Top block sells replacement parts or you could probably just smooth out those spots with a small file.

Great outcome ZG. . . but I suspect you may have staged the whole "event" just to get those never-normally-possible camera angles of yr ride!  :))

All kidding aside, the Top Block protectors are cheap insurance.

By the way, if you want to know if the Top Blocks have paid for themselves yet, just add up the costs of the following parts:

Left saddlebag lid    14092-0122-27Z     $328
Left mid fairing panel 55028-0388-27Z   $247
Left lower cowl  55028-0330-18T            $126
Left muzzy muffler                                   $620
Shift lever and/or right footpeg               $45 - $150
Left mirror  56001-0182-27Z                   $173

And this is assuming no other parts were damaged.

Just tipped mine over yesterday ( a few scratches only ) now you have me looking at this hard. I have looked at there site and I think I've found them question to you is did you order from them or were did you get it? This is looking to be my next purchase.

Edit.... Looks like  you can only order from them so email is sent but ZG I am intrested in what to expect to pay for all three parts you have if you don't mind?

The side slider kit is about $700 IIRC, and the swing arm sliders are about $250. Yes, I ordered them all directly from Top Block.

By the way, if you want to know if the Top Blocks have paid for themselves yet, just add up the costs of the following parts:

Left saddlebag lid    14092-0122-27Z     $328

And this is assuming no other parts were damaged.

Indeed Fred, I'd say I'm now ahead of the game with the TB purchase and just the one drop, all future drops are free!  :o  :)

Yep, I think it will smooth out nicely with a file and some polishing compound Fred!  :)

Ya know, I about had a heart attack when I saw how much you paid for the sliders. Nice bit of kit, but $700!?!? WOW :o

I thought you were high. They now seem like a very sound investment. They're on my list (seat, exhaust, SLIDERS, reflash....)

That list keeps getting longer and longer the more time I spend on this forum. :-[

Wow ZG - my wife and I were just commenting on your pretty bike in front of the pink tree yesterday!

I bought the Projekt sliders, but haven't gotten around to installing the middle ones...and seeing your bike laying down makes me wonder if I'll have such good luck if I drop it. You had ZERO damage.  Whatever you paid for them just came back to you...go buy a lottery ticket, man, you got lucky!  :)

So...tell me about installation - what's involved?

Glad the bike's good.  And don't feel bad, I tried to move my cruiser in the garage in socks once...   :)

I took one of mama's finger nail file and buffer things to the plastic section of the Top Block slider where it hit it ground, then buffed it out with some pollishing compound, unless you new it was there you can't even really see it!!

So is there still no U.S. Rep for these?  I have to call France to order?
