"Password security has recently been upgraded."
« on: November 14, 2011, 08:21:57 pm »
Hi,

When I try to sign on via my iPad, I get this message: "Password security has recently been upgraded. Please enter your password again."

Even though I enter the same username/pw combo I use on the computer, it just keeps displaying the same message.

Any ideas?

Thanks!

I get that when I do not enter the right password.
I would suggest logout from a PC, then login again and make sure you know the right password.

Nothing changed here with security. It sounds local to your iPad.

Hi Steve,

I need a little help here. I don't know my password. It is saved on one computer (the one I am submitting this post from). I've tried signing in from other computers (not the iPad) and the forum doesn't recognize my email address when I try to retrieve my password.

When I try to change my password from this computer, it requires my current password, which of course I do not have.

How can I get a reset of this?

Thanks!

I'll take a stab at this, but I'll probably be wrong!  :))

I'm not sure about forum only members. But for normal COG members, I think you need to go into the COGMOS (main) section of the website. (Click on the 'Concours Owners Group, Sport Touring at it's finest" at the top of the page. That will take you to the main part of the site. Then go to the gray tool bar (menu) under the marquee header.

-Then click on "member area". This will bring you into the member area.
-Then place your cursor on "member links", and scroll down to "My Info", click on my info. This will take you to that section.
-Then in the top left corner (under "My Info"), pace your cursor on "view", Scroll down and click on "my membership".
-Once in "My Membership",  In the top left corner, place your cursor on "Actions" (next to "view"), and click on "edit user name/password".
-Then make changes and press "update" (and write it down this time).

Of course this probably means nothing if a forum only member. Like I said, I'm not sure. Just trying to help.  ;)

OK now let me try if the other method won't work for the forum only members. Again, I could be wrong. But I'll give it a try.

On the gray tool bar (not logged in) where it says: (Home, Help, Search, Login, Register). Click on "Log In" . This will bring up a log in box (different form the one on the top of the page). In that box where you type in your user name and password.  Down at the very bottom, click on "forgot your password". This should help you retrieve your password through email. I hope this works.

Now if you want to change it for the forum only:

At the top of this page (the forum) on the gray tool/menu bar (Home, Help, COG, Search, Profile, My Messages, Media, Members, Logout).

-Place your cursor on "profile", then scroll down to, and click on "Account Settings". This will take you where this change can be made.
-You can then make changes like password and such. But you will need your password to make changes. Once the changes are made. You must click on "change profile" on the bottom right hand side to make these changes take effect.

I hope that some of this helps somewhere.  :)

When logging into this forum, authentication is performed against the username & password created when registering with COG at the main pages. This means that user must change username/password via  www.cog-online.org and the Member Area section; My Info. There is a post in the rules section on how to change profile info.

Bill - you should have received an auto-generated login info email from the system. I hope that helped. If not you should send an email to the club's IT officer.

Thanks Guys, but I still can't get anything to work on any other computer than this one.

When I try to reset my password on the cog-online site, I get the following message: "That emails address (billattechnaceadotcom) is being used by a registered member already. If you feel this is a mistake, go to the login page and use the password reminder with that address."

I do exactly that, it sends me a reset link, and then I plug in my username and password, and (insert dramatic pause and drumroll) it gives me the same message again.

Not sure what to do from here. Eventually I'll have to reboot this machine and then I'll just be locked out I guess.

Any help would be much appreciated.

Cheers!

I've been getting the same message too, on my Android phone. Workaround has been to scroll to the bottom, click on 'WAP2', get the forum in a different format, then scroll to the bottom again, and click 'full version'. Voila!

Still curiouser - 1) some postings on child boards were not accessible on the Android (Lie-Detecting robot thread in Humor Mill, for example)
                       2) No can reply or post when using Android, only read

Eh?   ???

 :truce:

Thanks to Steve, we've determined that this is entirely an IO error. Apparently I never noticed that my username is not the same as my Alias (and I was using my alias to try and sign in).

Thanks Steve!
