Slow front page
« on: October 30, 2012, 04:44:37 pm »
The front page of cogmos is taking 15-30 seconds to load today where every other page on the site is only taking a second to load for me.   This may be due to the two rolling features or a problem.

I would remove the rolling photos and move the rolling IM ads up on the page so they are seen by everyone without scrolling the page down.   JMO

We all know your special Steve but I tested it over a few hours and it is loading slower then every other page.  I have a fiber connection to the world and the best computer I could get 6 months ago.   How could just that page load slower just for me.

Check that it is ALL loading.  The top loads fast.

Yup - slow. About 20 sec. And the "addthis" bookmark at the bottom is broken, just an 'x' in a box.

What is the website URL exactly?

When loading this weblink http://cog-online.org/ClubPortal/ClubStatic.cfm?clubID=1328&pubmenuoptID=13528

I see my Firefox browser trying to access this website to run scripts of some kind.  Hope that helps...

Does not seem to matter the way you get there.  www.cog-online.org
The top loads fast but the bottom is taking over 20 seconds.

My wait times on this site are pretty minimal.  Once in a while I have the firefox wheel spinning far too long, but overall the performance is good.

This site, the one the forum is on is different servers then the cog-online site I think.

It does appear they are on different servers.
The forum is pointing to "forum.cog-online.org.s133072.gridserver.com"  at  IP Addr: 205.186.175.103
while the COGMOS (Club Portal) is pointing to "www.cog-online.org"  at IP Addr: 67.199.16.98.
The Portal page does have some hangup while waiting for "scripts/hashemian.com".  Not sure what they're running there but that sure seems to be the speed bump.

Correct.  The portal page uses a slideshow script, which has always run without any significant delays. Seems things slowed down somewhat after the storm. Coincidence?  COGMOS backend service has limitations and may not allow hosting scripts.

Runnerboy... sounds like you have some web development ability.  COG can always use some fresh IT type blood. Ever consider volunteering?

I'm not much in the way of code, but I did "build" my business website and have made a few others.  I even used to have (long before FaceBook) a family/extended-family forums site that was a very limited FaceBook-like site.  Damn I should have developed that one!  Shoulda-coulda-woulda.

I'd be happy to lend a hand here with whatever I can.  I've had lots of personal experience with the Simple Machines Open Source software so it's no stranger to me.
