Can't edit my posts
« on: January 18, 2015, 01:32:26 am »
I used to be able to edit my posts. That function is gone. I did log out and log back in.

I can modify this must be some type of time limit.

Please explain.

Oh no!!! You're right!!  :o
Is BDF back??
Did he finally get his Forum Manifesto pushed through??
<--- is there any mechanism in place to deal with a non- productive, antagonistic, former non- member such as this?

 :D

But then again, I just checked and while I can modify this post, I can't modify others...

Hmmm... it appears that recent update may have had a wider affect besides turning off visitor searches... or maybe Dave is correct.

No Modify or Delete. :-\

Looks like you get a 24 hour window so you better watch your beer intake each night or get up early and check to see what you posted the night before.
I'm guessing you are going to do the latter.  :beerchug:

I was just out in the garage looking at the fenders I have boxed up and it got me thinking now I can't mark items sold. I even checked on posts I start and I can not modify the topic anymore to mark it SOLD.  :(

That kind of sucks.

looks like it was another casualty of the upgrade.
I just reset it so all should be good.

I have several posts in this thread:

They all show up with a quote in the upper right corner only, no modify or delate

From what I gather for the last 6 to 9 months it's been limiting you to only being able to edit posts that are 5 days, and since the upgrade it was set to 24 hrs, I just reset it back to 5 days.

The idea being that after so long you shouldn't be editing a post, but rather you should create a new post. This keeps people from revising their posts so they can say "I never said that!" or deleting their posts and wreaking havoc by punching huge holes in the threads.

"That's all well and good" you say, "but what about the Emporium?!?"

To which I reply "um... yeah that..."

Obviously this isn't a perfect solution and I'm working on finding a better way to deal with it.

and since I cant seem to post without emojii, this should fit the bill   :33: :41:

I'm pretty sure that in the past, there was not a 5 day limit on editing. That would still suck, just not as bad.

Thanks for looking into this Mike. 5 days still does not sound right though. When I posted a thread with a ton of stuff in it for sale I could go and remove things as they sold for well over six months. Oh well, I will just post new ones.

+1...  :iagree:

I don't think there was a time limit on it at all for editing, I've edited threads that are years old before when I delete out pics from my photobucket account so that the thread isn't full of the dreaded no pic blank box thing... I always considered it self moderating.  ;D ???

Sorry, I should have phrased that better.
it used to be unlimited, but then 6 or 9 months ago it was changed to 5 days.

and as far as emojii for this post... this should work  :sign0144: (here being the Admin area)

Doerofthings, thanks for taking this all on.

Might I suggest a poll on this 5 day thing or just get rid of it. JMHO, but it blows. It will make the forum, especially the Emporium, not convenient to a down right PITA. The Emporium will really suck with having to click on threads and having to read through them only to find that the items are sold. And no more changing the opening post under events is also problematic.

I think the load on moderators will go up, also not a good thing.

Not having been on a lot of forums, this is the first that I've seen with a five day limit.

Le's see.. it was not a problem or extra work for mods prior to the update, why would putting things back the way they were be any different?

This appears to be a case were a software update has caused more problems than it solved.

If we're voting... put it back the way it was.

Unaware of this issue, but agree, back to unlimited months to edit your post or thread title, even.  Or whatever the maximum was.
So what if it blows a hole in a thread, those few situations are old threads and nobody reads them anyway.  What's the interest in them?

As a club/forum, let's move away from the 'control' button.
