can't upload pictures anymore
« on: December 14, 2014, 02:19:18 am »
I am receiving an error message saying I can't upload that type of file.... nothing on my end has changed that I am aware of. The  image is a jpeg file, it is being transferred from the same folder in my laptop. Image was taken by the same cell phone, sent to my email then transferred to my pictures folder. I then use the photo editor to resize the image and then add it as an attachment..... up until today it worked fine.  ???

txfatboy,
If the file extension is .jpeg it will kick it out. Change it to .jpg and it should work fine. I had this issue with jpeg formats recently.

Okay, but I'm just wondering what has changed? ALL my photos have been uploaded the same way, from the same folder, and all are .jpeg .... hasn't been a problem until now. I did recently get a windows update so maybe that has something to do with my issues? I'll dig a little deeper. Thanks for the help.

When attach attaching files directly to posts, give consideration to these settings...
  • Allowed attachment extensions: doc,docx,rtf,pdf,gdb,gpx,gif,jpg,jpeg,mpg,png,txt,zip
  • Max size per attachment: 350 kB
  • Max number of attachments per post: 4
  • The system will display image attachments as pictures under post, resized to 150 x 150 thumbnail.

Besides attaching images & files directly to posts, the COG forum has a Media Center installed that provides better features than attaching directly to posts. Access it from the MEDIA bar menu item.

Media Gallery Features
Create albums and sub-albums with unlimited levels
Supports Images, Audio and Video files
Track which items you haven't viewed yet (similar to SMF's Unread Posts)
Search, preview, rate, comment and embed items! It must be worth the exclamation mark!
Supports Exif data (no PHP modules required), GD2, ImageMagick and FFMpeg
Mass Upload, Profile areas, video thumbnails...
Embed tag, allows you to post items into your messages
Can upload almost any filetype, including documents and custom extensions
Mass downloads (zip file with selected files from any album)

Yes, as far as I know, I comply with all requirements to add attachments. The thread "Not so ultimate Concours" has pictures from the same folder, processed the same way, using the same equipment, etc.... only now, when I tried to add an update, I get an error message saying I can't update that type of file (jpeg)..... again, I have not knowingly changed anything on my end from the last time I added pictures to the thread a few days ago.

Can you upload a pic, or the same pic, to a different thread? (try uploading in this thread for example)

I finally got it to upload the pictures. Previously, I was taking the picture with my cell phone. I would send it to myself in an email then transfer the image to my picture folder in windows (windows 7 ultimate). Then I would resize them using the photo editor in windows paint. I would use that resized photo to upload to this forum. Until yesterday it worked fine. Just a few minutes ago, I sent them to my FB page and then transferred them to my pictures folder. I was able to upload the image after that. I'll try and upload one of the images from my email to this thread and see what happens.

Well, it seems to have worked fine hear so..... ??? Oh well, one of those mysteries I'm not going to try and figure out. Thanks for the suggestion WillyP. Don't know why the same image works on this thread but not the other. Okay, I'm done.

I don't know, but I'm guessing there is a hard coded limit to the number of photos in a thread. You could upload them to the gallery and embed into your thread. After you upload the pic, copy the 'BBC embed code' into a post.

I think I found the configuration issue and hopefully resolved it.
