Cleaning up the Emporium
« on: September 26, 2015, 11:52:20 pm »
Hi All,

Don't know if this has been posted before.  I was looking at the C14 Emporium recently and noticed that a lot of the items are already sold.

Is there any way to remove all "Sold" items to make it easier to search for items that are still for sale.

Just my 2 cents.

RevRyder is the moderator of the Emporium threads, Claude.  It says that in the thread title.  Try shooting him a PM before asking Doer Of Things.

Why can't the poster remove the post after item is sold ? Seems like that would make sense ..

From previous discussions,  I believe sold posts are left in place so others can get an idea of prices paid for future reference?  An aid to buyers & sellers?  I guess.

People do the "sold " thing on craigslist too even though they can remove the post , aggravating . I don't want to see what I could have bought .

I like adding the SOLD ... I wish everyone would do it.

I like seeing old posts to get prices.

Relying on people to remove posts is not going to be reliable enough.

Deleting all posts older than x, might mean someone might not realize their post has been removed.  Of course, if they bump the post, it will remain current ... But this achieves what I do anyway ... Which is ...

I only look over the items with activity within a month ... To limit the search possibilities. All the items that I have checked older than that have not been available.

And yes these are just my opinions ...

I agree with leaving old posts there for reference.
Can the no edit "rule" be relaxed only for the emporium?
Another possible solution... Since the OP may not be able to add "SOLD" to a post older than 30 days, is this something a moderator could do?  When an item is sold, seller sends note to moderator, and "SOLD" is added at front of title.
Having said that, I may get hate mail from moderators; I don't know how much work that would be, and I do appreciate what they already do.

Hey Jorge,

Unfortunately the time to edit setting is a global switch, and not something that is set on the board level.
So that makes the "send a note to the moderators" the way to go for this kind of thing.

other than that, how's FL treating you?

when searching - specifically for items in the Emporium do conventional search qualifiers work?

ie: risers

would find more items (including those marked sold) than

ie: risers -sold

if the search function "-" does indeed return results excluding the term "sold". I did a couple of tests and it seems to work okay.

Search
Aerostich
and then search
Aerostich -sold
(notice the no space between - and sold)
and view the difference.

Note/Hint: so don't include the word "sold" anywhere in your ad until the item is actually sold
