Membership Handbook Enhancement Request
« on: June 06, 2019, 11:39:17 am »
I am a member willing to offer assistance to riders in my area. But, with the recent deluge of Robocalls I often ignore unrecognized numbers. Is it possible to add a Method of Contact "MOC" field in the user handbook so that members can specify Cell, Text, Home Phone, Email?

I would hate to miss a chance to help a Cogger in need.

Thanks,
Rob Schlick

How about if you get three calls in a row from the same numer?
Could be the secret COG call for help. Robo callers don't do that.

Good idea, but if the number is designated as a mobile phone then caller could also text. Maybe the combination of the two (2) - call and text - would suffice. Just a thought ...

Good point on the text messages. But, I have found that sometimes, it don't work.
A good example is the crappy cell service west of Casper. Draw a straight line through the middle of Wyoming, and depending on your service, you may not get any as most of the service dies west of that line. There is no cell service at the top of the Big Horns and most other mountainous areas until you get further west and closer to civilization. Straight Talk and TracFone is a real crap shoot in rural areas, especially for digital data. We also have a lot of spotty dead zones where nothing works unless you have a good antenna and amplifier.

uhhhhhh....

I get 15 calls a day, on my home phone, which someone owned prior to me, and continues to use the number to "hide" themself..."

simple thing is, every single one of these calls, that come in, NEVER leave a voice message... they simply hang up, and call again, the next day, same time... and again, and again...

I've gone so far as to make my answering machine say "this is NOT the Campbell's phone any more... and if you don't leave a voice message, I'll never call you back... so get with the program....."

Every phone today lets you leave a voice message, check them, and erase them, and never let that box get full...
If I call someone, and need help, or don't need help, when I get the message thing I leave a message.. pretty simple

 :-[ :-[ :-[ :-[ :-[ ::) :-X

by the way, I never answer my home phone... I look at the number coming in, and think... "screwya if you don't leave me a message..."

Problem is...every one is doing that. Letting the world go to voice mail just delays communications.
BTW...FCC just approved new rules so that carriers can now block robo-calls. There is some hope on the horizon.

I do not answer the phone unless I know the number. Leave a vmail and you will get an instant response as soon as possible.

I hate to say this, but I agree with the Old Guy.
So many Robo's that I don't answer unless I recognize the number.
Leave me a text of Vmail.
On either, just say, I am a COG member and need to talk with you.

Maybe that message could be put in the next member handbook as special instructions?

Same here, leave a message, I never answer an unknown call on any phone.  Trouble is I just canceled my home phone service but the new handbook has that number.   I may have to fix that next year. :/
