To reproduce:
Log into your account at cog-online.org
Visit the main page at http://cog-online.org - now click "Member Area" - note behavior.  You are immediately sent to forum.cog-online.com

While still logged in, visit the main page at http://www.cog-online.org - now click "Member Area" - note behavior.  You are instead sent to the /clubportal/Calendar.cfm URL.

I've repro'd this with my account on both Chrome (31.0.1650.63) and Firefox (25.0.1).  I haven't dug around to see if there are other similar bugs, but it appears that for whatever reason the site behaves differently based on the URL you are visiting.

Normally this wouldn't bug me much, but when I was trying to follow the Guest-to-Member instructions today I had already had a tab opened to http://cog-online.org and was attempting to follow them to no avail.  I managed to nail it down when I clicked the link and it worked just fine.

This behavior gets reported every once in a while.  It does not happen to everyone. It may be something the member processing SaaS provider did on the back end - pointing forum subscribers directly to our SMF that is hosted on another vendor's server.  It may also be a cookies related thing, since once the correct main member area URL (calendar) is reached, the redirect to forum does not happen again. I suspect once membership flips you over to full member this will never be an issue again. I'll let our IT Officer know. Keep us posted if you continue to see it happen using the same system.

BTW - welcome & thanks for joining the club.

There is more to be gained by members raising hands saying "I'll do that" instead of pointing fingers saying "nobody's doing that."

Sounds good - FWIW, it's happening to me every time I use http://cog-online.org (instead of http://www.cog-online.org) - multiple systems too... (home laptop, work laptop) - even after successfully visiting it (I can reproduce it currently and I've been to both the buggy and non-buggy URLs)

Once my status flips I'll try it out again.

Like I said, this is very much non-critical, just figured it's something that should be known.  I did a quick search for "Member Area" and didn't run across a previous report - if there was one and I missed it, I apologize! :)

Thanks for the added detail on the URL. That is something that can be passed along on the next service ticket.

No need to apologize... this might have been reported by email. Just wanted you to know that it was seen before and not an anomaly only on your system.  Sounds like you might have a technical/IT background. Yes?

Yes - I currently work as a Lead Infrastructure Engineer (which is somewhat DevOps-ey) - some programming experience, but mostly scripting, lots of IT Service background.

Excellent!!!  If you decide you want to get involved in the club, there may be a few volunteer IT positions available  ;D

BTW - Looks like membership processed your upgrade. You should have member access on the main pages and if you refresh your forum profile by logging out/in your COG # will appear.
