spammers

This spammer seems to be a regular here. Is there any reason to worry about COG website security?

There is no worry about COG website security.  These folks are not defeating security - they are creating a user account.  When identified, SPAMmers are banned from the forum and their accounts are deleted. They regularly use different username, email addresses and IP addresses each time they create an account and there is no way for the automated registration process to identify a valid member from spammer. One way to limit the issue is to make all COG (member & forum subscriber) registrations require the extra step of manual approval. This is a PITA for both the new user and COG. Probably easier to ban and delete spammers as reported.  Of course, if there are members out there with a strong working knowledge of creating custom code for SMF with a plan and willingness to help make improvements , please contact the COG IT Officer or forum admin.

There is more to be gained by members raising hands saying "I'll do that" instead of pointing fingers saying "nobody's doing that."
