A big thanks to Slybones (Fred) and Locksmith (Rick)for their offers of assistance. The have already begun to make a difference on the revised Tech pages.    Many Hands Make Light Work.    I look forward to seeing others step up and volunteer!  So far the NW is leading the charge :)    Colin  Colin Prior  COG IT Director    Lake Forest Park WA  COG#7767  AMA#1081764  ROK#20000617

Since this topic is a sticky at the top of the page I'm assuming the search for assistants is on going.  Anything I can do to help just let me know.

Hi Mike

Yes I'm still looking for help with:
  • Area Pages especially the SW pages.
  • Nominations for moderators for the child boards as we set them up.
  • The Homepage is out of date and the header stripe is not as good as I would like.

I'm ok at general tech stuff.. but not good at web design and layout, as I'm not 'that' creative

Hard to believe in this day and age that none of our members have web page authoring skills.  Our home page and other areas could be so much better then it is.  Come on... you know you want to. :)

Well I volunteered back on October 10th but was never given the opportunity to help.

I think that shows the level of behind the scenes activity going on in the club now.  To busy to worry about the look of things.  That does not mean we do not need to work on it.  Just need some persistence in getting a task assigned.  Maybe look for yourself what needs to be done and make a proposal on how you might improve it.

Hey Mike;

If I missed something I'm truly, there are many areas that need work, part of the issue is where to start.
There are a number of Tech pages that need updating and Slybones and I are always looking for new ones.
Is there any particular area that takes your fancy helping with or that your passionate about?

Cheers

Colin

Here is a idea for a task that I think would help everyone.  If I had the time I would do it myself.

Go into each of the Concouriers magazines that are online now and pull the Contents page out.  Make a Master Contents page so members can use it to find the issue and page with an article they want to check out.   The master list would have to be added to every issue.

If someone gets really ambitious make Tech articles in the magazine into linkable objects that can be pulled up from the Tech Pages area of the home page.

Its a great idea! and one that I began to start some time ago.
A master index of the Concouriers is much needed!
If someone can put it into Word, Excel or notepad I can pop it into a nice Table, perhaps with a filter too  ;)

Website Review Worksheet
« Reply #18 on: May 06, 2011, 01:49:25 pm »
Here's the deal...

The first thing we need to do is review the current pages to figure out what changes need to be made.
To track the changes and so as you don't end up all suggesting the same thing (like the SW pages need updating), we have created the following Worksheet that is public so y'all can edit it.

Worksheet

I put instructions on the first tab.

Please try and keep the suggestions in the correct Tab.

DON'T enter information in the summary tab, it does that automatically  :)

Once we have the list of changes and updates, we can then look for volunteers to get the work done.
In most cases its more about content management than needing Website Skills.
For example many area pages are missing up to date photo's so each Area could have a volunteer who keeps this updated.

 Cheers

Friendly bump for web site improvement feedback (and volunteers).  :)

I know we're getting into the riding season but if those interested in helping to improve the site could take a bit of time to provide feedback via the worksheet Colin provided and/or volunteer for an item or two, it would be greatly appreciated.

I might be able to help in some capacity. What do you need done on the tech pages? I used to update genealogy web pages a few years back. I do not have any fancy HTML software and I am not very creative in fancy headers etc.

Thanks much for the kind offer.   Keep in mind the last activity on this thread was from 2011, so not sure where colin stands.  Send him an email direct (it at cog-online dot org), as he has been quite busy and is not on the forum very often these days.
