$11 bucks a quart of oil! Damn!
« on: May 20, 2013, 06:28:57 pm »
I really want to get this break in oil out of my bike.  Just north of 400 miles and i'm changing it.

I ran to Schucks to get Mobile 1 4T "on the list of oils" and it's $11 per quart.  Holy crap.

I went ahead and bought it but will definitely search in advance of my next oil change for a better price.

Bought the larger wix filter also.

Where and what are you guys getting for oils?

I wait for it to come on sale and then stock up. Last year Advance auto had it on sale for quite a bit cheaper. So I bought a whole bunch from a few different stores. I basically cleaned them out. It won't go bad waiting to be used. And for the last few years, having three bikes meant it can get used pretty quick. I probably have about 15-20 quarts in reserve.  :))

GASP.....a oil thread. Walmart has Mobil 1 at slightly less than $10.00 a quart. I'm going to start buying a quart or 2 once in awhile to keep sticker price shock down a little. Tim

I personally think paying that much for oil is ridiculous, I have been using Rotella 15/40 for years with great results. $12.97 a gallon at wally world !!!.

I was thinking about it.  Being that the interval is every 7500 miles why am I all worried that the oil is 2x the price of regular automotive grade oil?

I wonder if regular mobil 1 is good enough for our machines?  Not that I'd use it until any warranty is expired.  Don't want to give them any reason to deny an engine failure type of claim should that ever happen.

BTW, barely over 400 miles.  Draining my oil as I type.  It's silver and sparkly.  Absolutely disgusting.  I should have done this 200 miles ago.

I'd go get it all if I were you.

Personally, I can't stand walmart so I don't go there.

Engine oil is like farkles, everyone has their own peronal preference. As long as you are using an oil that is of the correct API classification for the application, then use whatever you personally prefer. Personally I do not spend the money on full synthetic oils, unless, in a particular application they give me significantly better performance results, (better shifting in a bike). Otherwise it will be either a syn blend or conventional oil. I have used synthetic in some of my bikes and it made the trans shift better, others not so much. I am going to try it on the connie for my next change. If there is no noticeable difference then I will go back to regular oil. I know most syn oils can (supposedly safely) be run for double or even triple the typical oil change mileage, and in doing so they will be cheaper than conventional oils. I prefer to keep track of contaminants in my oil on a more frequent basis so I can find a problem, (if one is starting), a bit sooner.
