'17 C14 windscreen options?
« on: June 24, 2018, 11:06:37 pm »
Hey Gang - Took delivery of my brand-new '17 Concours 14 ABS - in Candy Imperial Blue on 6/21/18.

I'm 6"0", and the stock windscreen does not provide protection from wind noise, even in full-up position. Cee Bailey's is out of the M/cycle biz. Several aftermarket options cover '10-'14, but not '17.

I love the bike, but need to solve this problem. Any ideas?

Thanks, Chris

I tried a Calsi Tall,  but, ended up with Madstad Brackets. For me, the brackets solve 90% of noise issues. Where in the Northeast are you? I'm in NH and would let you try the Calsci.

Just ordered the Masdstad brackets. Will let you know how they work out. I'm in Ithaca, NY mostly and Jamaica, VT often. Commuting time: 4:45. That's why I needed to upgrade from my '01 C10 to a Concours 14 ABS.

Really like my new  Puig Touring screen. I'm 6'2", and it's quiet when all the way up.

Several aftermarket options cover '10-'14, but not '17.

The mounting is the same from `08-current.

`15 started the one with the added vent, that was really the only change to the windshield then.

`10 saw the Accessory windshield become the standard windshield.

I like the Vstream.    In the summer months I put the stock shield back on, 2010 C14.

Radioman, in case you're nor aware. The kit as it comes from Madstad, is  not 100% correct fot 2015 and newer. You'll have to go to your local hardware store to purchase a few longer screws. Not a deal breaker, just a pain. When I installed mine on my 2015 I called them and explained the vent requires longer screws. They didn't know about the vent on newer models. There are other recent threads explaining this here.

I am not your height {I'm 5'-9} and tried a higher shield with little success.
Still had buffeting, and it felt like someone was pushing me forward when shield was all the way up.
Plus, I think the higher shields add additional strain to the windshield mechanism.

I solved the problem by going to the MRA Vario. {bought from Twisted Throttle}
The Vario is a lot lower than stock, but the wind deflector does an "amazing" job.
NOTE: MRA also offers a touring shield (X-creen) that has a taller wind deflector.
Update; This was posted in another discussion.

I highly recommend either...

That is a good point...any additional windshield area puts additional stress on the windshield mechanism.  I haven't had any problems but you do see it flexing at higher speed and buffeting.

I came across another discussion in which a member installed just the upper X-creen wing to his stock shield.

+1 on the Madstad Brackets. The effects on the looks still takes getting used to but I am function over form and they took care of 85 to 90 percent of the problem. Easy to go back to stock, and half the price of most windshields that may or may not work. I am 6'-0" but with a short torso, the back pressure (not vented 2013 w/s) and buffeting were obnoxious.

Good fortune with your experience.

I added the MRA x-creen to my stock 2016 windshield.  It seems to decrease the buffeting but the wind noise is still terrible.  I always wear earplugs and still have developed tinnitus in the last year.  I'm 6'2" with 32" inseam.

I installed the Puig touring screen on my 2016.  Link below has my review of the Puig windscreen:

The issues I've encountered with taller screen was , although buffeting and wind nose were diminished, the increase of back pressure at speed when screen at full up position. Also, neither Puig or Cee Bailey can be used with Projekt-D winglets without modification to the screen's side deflectors.
Ironically, for me, stock configuration offers the best performance.

Cheers...

I thought the higher shields would add additional strain to the windshield mechanism so I looked it up in this Forum.
Found several discussions.

+1...taller guys should look into the 08-09 oem windshield... it work great as a shorty during warm weather.
