09 vs 10

Going to be purchasing a concours 14.  Choice is between 09 ABS or 10 ABS/TRAC simular miles, 2000 dollar price difference. What would you go with.

I would go with the 09, but the 10 has a lot of upgrades from the 09, it depends on what is important to you. Will you use the heated grips on the 10? Traction control, do the mirrors on the 09 work for you? Which color do you like best?

If the 09 is red, then it's a good looking bike. If it's black, it doesn't matter. They will both be filthy and show everything!  :))

I swapped my 08 for an 11 because I thought it was worth it.  And its still worth it to me.  I love my 11!!

They used higher mirror bases starting on the 2010 C14. It allows for better visibility. The forks are basically the same. Although IIRC, the level of fork oil has changed slightly again starting on the 2010.

$2000? You'd be nuts to go with the old model. Book value for resale should cover your $2000 later. And all that time in between, you'll be riding on the improved model. If you don't really care about the improvements, get an old used 08 for even greater savings.

The picture you show has a top box. Is there a top box on both bikes? Are you comparing apples to apples? Just wondering.

I prefer the 10/11 to the 08/09. That's why I waited so long to get mine and ended up with an 11 (black).

I just picked up the '10, but only because the sold the 09 out from under me.

The $2000.00 difference is a Kawa promotion that ends this month so don't sit too long if you decide on the '09

In '10
*Traction Control Added
*ABS brakes are now linked with 2 stage settings, partial linking and full linking
*Redesigned the fairing to solve some heat issues from previous model years, I've read reports somewhere of riders getting blisters on the right inside leg on the 08 & 09 models although most people say it's fine.
*Mirrors were moved slightly, but that had as much to do with the fairing redesign as anything
*The windscreen is slightly larger

I think that's it...

I thought there was a fair laundry list of changes, but those are just the BIG ones.  My traction control saved my bacon once.  That's worth the extra money.  A drop can cost a couple grand fast.

Oh and Eco mode for those that prefer less horsepower

I honestly haven't noticed any major power difference between ECO mode being on versus off. With it on, I do notice a little more hesitation off idle, but once rolling, not much difference to me. Granted I spend 99% of my riding time commuting or super-slab riding so I'm probably not riding in conditions where I'll notice the difference.

What I do notice is about a 5mpg difference between ECO mode being on and off and for me, that means ECO mode stays on almost all the time. I do turn it off about once every 5 tankfuls...just because. I wish Kawasaki would offer a free upgrade to the ECU or whatever controls ECO mode so that it stays in whatever mode it was last in when the bike was turned off rather than always defaulting to off.

Oh well...can't have it all I guess. :)

Wow, 5 mpg? That's enough to help me get a round trip to work. Right now I just can't quite make it the whole way unless I want to arrive home on fumes. Really wish I had a bigger tank!!

I think my ideal bike would combine some features of both.  But for me, it was easier and cheaper to get a taller shield and heatguards for the 08 rather than try to figure out how to un-link the brakes on a 10 or 11 model.

Economy? I  never thought I would care.  BUT, the credit card company I use has an offer last month for 5% cash back on fuel. Just for fun I put all of my motorcycle gas on it.  60.00 for the yz 250/300 and 185.00 for the c14.  I was surprised to see how much I rode. (for me, anyway...)

At about $4 per gallon, it adds up quick. Say your low fuel light is on when you head out. Then say you put 5 gallons in. Your already out $20 and you haven't even left yet!  >:(

I guess I should qualify that...I see a 5mpg improvement as long as I keep it around 70-75mph. If I'm cruising at 80+ then it's more like 0 to +2mpg.  ;D

I'm not a fan of the blue, sorry...

If you're debating between an 09 and an 11 then the cost difference will be much more than $2k, but at least you can get black!  :great:

Happy hunting!
