2009 Headlight Assembly Removal
« on: January 05, 2019, 05:49:54 pm »
Hi
New to forum (not sure why I haven't been here for years), riding 20 yrs, riding C14 since 2009, 40k. Anyway, I got into a minor bender and destroyed the headlight and surrounding fairing. I know taking this thing apart is challenging and time consuming because I've done it once before (replace air filter). So bottom line is; How do I replace the headlight assembly? Do I need to remove the entire windshield mechanism and od/tac display?

Thanks in advance,
Jack

First off, welcome! I would start with getting yourself a factory service manual since it will help in the long run with these types of services. From what I can see, it looks like you need to remove the upper fairings to get to the headlight assembly. Manual doesn't say the windshield or od/tac removal although it may be helpful to inspect for other damages.

Hopefully someone can pipe in for more helpful advice who've done this procedure before!

That long, and you're JUST getting around to visiting the forum??  ::)
What are some kind of loner??  a REBEL???

Just start removing bolts and connectors like the rest of us do, and you'll figure it out!
It's pretty straightforward, and intuitive.

The lower fairing removal assembly DOES take some getting used too....it's finnicky.

If I had to replace the headlight assembly, I'd think about doing some kind of retro fit with HID's or LED's.  Or at the very least, a drop-in LED replacement.
Do a search on Ebay....there's a Chinese company that offers a fully integrated bi-zenon HID projector setup with angeleyes, that has always looked appealing to me.
No claims as to the quality, but I know a few guys here have installed that very kit, and not been disappointed.   :great:

Hopefully, nothing else was bent or damaged in your accident.

Good luck.

Thanks RobertV
Thanks Ghostrider. Loner not a rebel.

I'm going to get the manual and also looking at the LED setup. I've made some progress on the assembly and I didn't remove the OD/Tac  :great:

So now I need to remove the wires and the level adjuster mech.
