2011 Concours Purchase
« on: August 06, 2019, 02:28:41 am »
Going to look at one tomorrow. It's black, just a tick under 4k miles and supposedly in excellent condition. Anything I should look out for on the test ride?

Thanks

Id inspect the tires as I am sure after that long they are dry rotting. Good chance the guy just coverd them in tire shine to try and hide that.

Besides the usual of checking all the fluids, brake front and back, clutch, oil, rear gear oil, tires, switch functions,
-Verify the TPMS sensors in both wheels are working.
-Take the seat off and look at the electrical harnessing to see if any accessories have been added and or removed. The previous owner (PO) of my 2010 was a real hack when it came to adding accessories, wire taps all over the place, most them were not being used any more.
-I would also pop open the gas tank, shine a light in there and check for any rust.  If the guy stored the bike for extended periods without filling the tank up it could have some rust on the exposed surface.  This would be a deal breaker for me and I'd walk away from it.
- Is the owner your buying from a COG member?  Good chance he, or she, took the time to take care of the bike.

The bike is awesome. I bought it today for $5,200 and rode it 200 miles home with the wife following me. It's near perfect condition. TPMS units were just replaced and he gave me the receipt. It does need new tires. I'm open for suggestions for tires. I would say longevity over performance or somewhere in between. It has Bridgestone Battlax on it now. I have never ridden a bike like this and I'm thoroughly amazed how well it handles and performs. It's truly an amazing machine.

Thanks

Congrats on the new toy.
There are countless sizes/brands of tires for you to choose from.
I think the most common suggestion is the Pirelli Angel GT.
Living in South Central and dependent on your riding style, expect to get 5000-7000 miles {max} out of any set of tires.

But those miles are really fun!

Hey,
Big congrats on the new bike.  You are going to love this bike and being a member of COG.  There is no better group for any question or problem you might have with your bike.  The people in COG know the bike way better than any dealership you could bring it to.

Now go take your wife for a nice ride. ;)

Cheers  :beerchug:

Congratulations on the new ride! An exact copy of my 2011 with 29,100 miles.  Needless to say you have great taste in motorcycles!!! Relative to tires, I am currently running Michelin Pilot Road 4s (Road 5s are now available).  A great tire wet or dry with decent wear. I run a 190/55ZR17 rear rather than the standard 50 series. This supposedly helps improve speedometer accuracy due to a slightly larger circumference (if I remember correctly) and may help with the handling due to the slightly different profile. Of course the handling of the 55 series vs. 50 series is a matter of debate. You may want to check with the seller to see if the recall on the rear brake was performed.  There was a mod to keep debris out of the rear pedal which tended to keep the rear brake pedal engaged.  This led to inadvertent application of the rear brake heating up and warping the disk.  Overall a great bike with no real issues!

"(Road 5s are now available)"

I'm not so sure the GT A-spec tires are out for our bike yet. You might want to double-check that ...

It's hideous! Find some used Shinko knobbies to put on it, the best upgrade ever...more better than a flash. Replace windshield with 4' x 4' piece of 1/4" plywood from Lowes, it will offer better wind protection.

But welcome aboard....seriously.

Shinko Knobbies were my 2nd choice and I already had a piece of 3/4" plywood so I went that route

Thanks
