He wasn't asking about the radiator. He was asking about below the radiator. He wants to cover the header pipe.  ;)   To answer the question. I haven't heard of anyone doing that. But as pointed out by Cuda. Many folks do cover the radiator!   :)

Someone on the GL1800 board made some type of grill to cover the openings on the lower cowl of the Gold Wing, They used a mesh screen, I'm trying to find the post and pictures, I'll post if and when I find it.

Here is a picture of what a guy on the GL18800 board did.  He used a mes screen, rain gutter screen from home depot will work, he cut it and bent it to shape and use gorilla glue to hold it in place. Might work for the open space under the radiator on our bikes

I would like to do this, but have no idea how. You would not be able to glue it to the fairing, because each side has to come off seperately. My best guess is that you would have to make some kind of frame to support the mesh, and then have that frame supported independently or maybe bolted/screwed to the fairings.

If it matched the radiator guard, it would have a really good look.

I used the ProjekD radiator guard on my Connie because I liked how it clipped to the top of the radiator so easily. On my ZX14 I used the Cox guard, and had to use zip-ties to hold it on at the top. Plus the ProjekD guard looks better.

Someday I might make such a lower grill, maybe next winter. Mine will have to be flat black, and I agree, it has to have a frame of some kind which doesn't prevent the side panels from being removed.

Here is what I did on my 2001 Kawi ZX6R.  I picked up a small mesh garbage can from Lowes, cut it out, formed it and painted it the same color as the frame.  I think it came out nice....I get a lot of compliments on how it turned out.  Did it years ago and it still looks great.

Let me know what you think.  Thanks.

I did the same thing to my ZX14, except I painted the mesh black. I used a heavier, courser, more open mesh that I got from an auto parts house.
