ABS service code 42 help needed ( Front rotation sensor)
« on: June 30, 2019, 03:13:04 pm »
I have non abs ZX14 forks on my ABS 08. I ddi the necessary machine work on the roght fork lower to mount the sensor and it worked fine until a recent tire change. Now the abs light comes on. The code ie 42. Also getting a 52, low voltage but I assume that is from before the last time I replaced a weak battery.

I checked the air gap and I have more than 1 mm; spec is .7 to .9. When last installed the front wheel I had difficulty getting the axle lined up with the left side nut and  so when this abs problem came up I assumed I did something wrong with the wheel installation. So I removed the wheel to redo but then noticed this about the sensor, see photo. It seems to be at least .1 recessed in its mounting bore on the fork. Should it be protruding from the bore and the measurement is made between the tip of the sensor and the rotor or between the fork and the rotor? Thanks in advance.

the "gap" is the space between the tip of the sensor, and the tone ring on the wheel, and the tone wheel needs to be inspected to insure there is no debris in, or deformations of those "slots", and they align centrally with the "center" of the sensor tip, as the wheel is rotated.

That is what I was thinking! I need to redo my mount job. Now the question is "How was it working before?"

Thanks for the sacrifice :great: I measured the OEM ABS fork and the non ZX fork I reworked and the ZX was still 1 mm thicker. I have it down now to .5 mm but quitting until the am. Its Happy Hour :beerchug:
