Delkevic or Circumcision?
« on: February 15, 2018, 03:34:16 pm »
I am sure the both items in question were discussed many times before.  :-\
The price of Akrapovic and the cost of shortening OEM muffler are both irrelevant to this topic.
My only objection is to have the muffler shortened by 4-6 inches.
I don't care about incresed performance or the look of both options.
My main goal is to keep the DB level down or as close as possible to NORMAL.
What would you do in my situation?  :hum:

?????

Re-read your post, and assume I don't know what you're talking other than it pertains to a muffler.  :)

I have dual Akras, and be glad to recommend them.

Sure wouldn't worry about excess noise as that isn't an issue with the slip on your considering.  Just in case....I have a never installed 18" SS oval on hand.   ;D

18" SS can be re-packed, as per DELKEVIC, CF can NOT.
I am interested... It is one of my options. :great:

What DB killer you installed?
Tech guy at DELKEVIC was very good, but no help about DB killer.

I wouldn't bother with shortening the factory pipe Roman. To much work & doesn't look much better. Like Roy said, it's still heavy. I have a CS1, it's louder but not a bother. You've ridden with me, did you notice it being to loud? It wasn't loud enough to scare that Turkey off you watched me annihilate last year.

Different bike I know, but put a CF 18" Delkevic on my V Strom. I can't tell any difference  over stock on it. Looks great too!  :motonoises:

I should have called it a baffle... Delkevic cans come with a removable baffle..

For what its worth, I love my Delkevic 18" CF without the baffle in.  Just enough sound to enjoy the motor and its cute too!

P.S. - The price point for them vs. others is compelling all by itself...

Cheers!

I wish more folks would have followed my Delkevic baffle mod posts.  The DB killer is easily modded by drilling a hole in the front of the cap.

Delkevic 14" oval Carbon installed. Man what a difference in weight. I instantly noticed it lifting it onto the center stand. First ride I felt the lack of tail weight even while running the top case.

Install was straight forward. As far as bang for the buck it is what it is a $265 can. Not near the quality of my M4s on my other bikes or a Yosh but good enough. A little thicker clear coating on the carbon can would really give it a more glossy finish and smooth it out some IMO. Clamps are kinda flimsy and thin. Nice touch on the cente rstand bump stop with included rubber bumper. At this price point it'll get the job done just fine. I would buy another one.

Time to eliminate that rear fender.

Freddy, how much work is required to do the Freddy cut, and did it make it louder?
ie: Is the sound similar to a Slip-on, a slip-on with baffle, or quieter?

It took about 4-5 hours to do - I was in no hurry.  The cut made it just slightly louder.  After first cutting the end plate off, the entire baffle system pulls out which I then cut the front 8" off and refitted the rear half, rewelded the end plate and repainted.  The silver covers each end hide the welds.   It's not hard to do with basic tools and a gasless MIG welder.  Cutting the outer shell in half at the same angle as the end plate requires care to ensure the end plate is easier to weld back on.  I also wrapped the muffler in rags to minimise scratches, removed before welding.

It was too quiet for my liking so a couple of years later I cut it open again, discarded the baffle system, cut the outer shell from the front end plate, welded a 2.5" 'hot dog' 9" long resonator to the inlet pipe and a 2.5" extension to the rear of the resonator so it ended very close to the angled end plate when it was rewelded.  I was very happy with the result - a deep note, somewhat loud under throttle but barely heard by the rider at cruising speed.

I've since done another couple.

The AreaP slip-on was reported to be 0 dB louder in cruise and +2 dB louder at WOT.  I'm sure the tone changed with more lower frequencies coming out.
